Hi Antoinus,

Sounds great! I am a Plata lover having done it twice from Sevilla (Sevilla-Zamora July 2011, Zamora-Muxía July 2013, Sevilla-Salamanca February 2014 and Salamanca-Santiago October 2014) and am sure that I will be back some time.

Two week will give you enough time to get to Santiago, from Zamora it took me 12 days.

Have fun preparing! If you have quesitons shoot away but I will be off on Friday to Barcelona to walk the Camí Sant Jaume, the Aragónes and the Invierno with fellow Forum member Laurie @peregrina2000 .

Antonis, I walked the route via Braganca to Verin last year. It was not well marked at all. If you have a GPS (functioning in Portugal) you should be fine though.
It was a wonderful adventure and took some serious pre-planning (not much info and the tourist office in Zamora did not have any up to date info as I was expecting).
I can say that you may need to carry more food than normal as most of the wee villages had nowhere to buy any food - no bars - no coffee.
Also the ‘eating hours’ in Portugal vary widely from Spain so most people have finished eating by 1.00pm and the streets are desserted in the small towns on the route.
You’ll also need to speak at least passable Spanish and have a good ear for understanding Portuguese as few people speak English on this route.
Feel free to PM me if you want any specific info. I did not take many notes so I’ll have to work from memory.
Cheers, Grace

Yes - well marked from Salamanca to Santiago (except for a few issues with the construction of the new AVE train line).
Check here for the latest detours in 2015. I’m sure someone will have posted updates.
Cheers, G

Im arriving at Zamora on 28th Jul after 18:00 , obviously i will need to get a credential to be able to stay in the albuerge and start walking next day ... Can i get the credential from albuerge or somewhere else there ? Its gonna be too late the time will arrive there to get it? Anyone knows something?

Gracias
Antonis

Antonis,

According to the Gronze web site the municipal albergue in Zamora issues Credencials and stays open until 22:00.

Buen camino!
