I walked the French way last year and the Portugese recently and have become more interested in the meaning behind the art, be it sculpture, paintings or glass. Can anyone recommend a good book or website that explains the meanings of the various symbols. Thanks in advance.

    Frances, autumn/winter; (2004), (2005-2006), (2007), (2008), (2009), (2010), (2011), (2012), (2013), (2014) (2015)
Scan either the paperback or ebook version available on Amazon of The Pilgrimage Road to Santiago: The Complete Cultural Handbook by David M. Gitlitz and Linda Kay Davidson. It is a useful introduction to art and architectural history along the camino.

Another basic scholarly source for religious/architectural iconography is
    How to Read a Church,
    Richard Taylor, 2003.

    Happy research and Buen camino!
