I recently took a friend on the Frances. He was a Camino Virgin and had only a week for his holiday. We stayed in St Jean on arrival. We then walked to Orisson, Roncessvalles, Zubiri and on the fourth day into a crowded San Fermin in Pamplona which we left that same evening boarding a Madrid train at 19:15 (as the earlier ones were full).
NOT a good idea. The thunder storm that started in Pamplona caused floods. South of Pamplona the train had to stop because of a flooded track at Tafalla
We sat there for a time while they decided what to do. While doing so we were surprised to see a telegraph pole float past Even more so when a car went by! The train reversed until it ran out of power. We then had two hours in darkness until they restored power to Pamplona.
We were zig-zag rerouted through Logrono, Zaragoza and finally into Madrid arriving at 5:45 in the morning. We had took 10.5 hours for what was a 3.5 hour journey!
But the Camino provided - we got there. Unfortunately many people in Tafalla lost possessions, and one man unfortunately lost his life. So as ever on the Camino the hardships can be endured and the blessings recognised.
Have an enjoyable and safe Camino one and all.
Allan

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I went to a wedding in Tafalla years ago. It was bone dry at that time. Pretty nice town.

I hope people are recovering.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I hope that hasn't put your friend off of walking caminos!
Safe and sound is what matters, but what an adventure, Al! Telephone poles and cars floating by does not bode well. The town of Tafella? Wow, I hope all are OK. Edit: Not. It was a huge deal, with a lot of damage and one casualty:
