Taxi to SJDP from Roncesvalles

How much does a taxi cost from Roncesvalles to SJDP? In mid October, would one have to pre-book accommodation in SJDP? Will the beginning of this trip just fall into place as everyone seems to suggest?!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
I don't think you should have your heart set on there being a taxi in Roncesvalles when you arrive. It is too small a place to have its own taxi. However, some pilgrims do take a taxi to Roncesvalles from Pamplona so you might just catch one.

I think the answer is to have a general plan, and then be flexible.

Good luck

I'm flying in to Barcelona and was originally going to start at Roncesvalles, but have now decided to start at St Jean PdP. I understood that there was a bus from Pamplona to Roncesvalles, how would I get to St Jean PdP to begin my walk?

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
if you get the coach from Pamplona to Roncesvalles you may well find that a taxi driver will be waiting to take pilgrims over the border to SJPP, that was my experience anyway.

Hi Brenda,
Yes things do pretty much fall into place though maybe not into the place you expected them to!
If you want to ring and check then the tourist office in SJPP will know the number or a local Taxi company or the Hotel La Posada in Roncevalles might be able to give you a contact and an idea of price. I would try and link up with any other pilgrim and bring the price down as much as possible- If the pilgrims you meet in Roncesvalles aren't too sure of the benefits of a SJPP start I''m sure you could convince them that its a tremendous launch to your Camino to have achieved such a iconic pilgrim stage on your first day or two etc.
In St Jean,if not staying at the Albergue where you can't book, then it is reassuring to know that you have a bed for the night whether thats a hostal or hotel depends on your budget. You will get to meet fellow pilgrims in SJPP wherever you stay. And its good, if traveling on your own, to have a chance start meeting and making friends with fellow pilgrims. If you are a solo walker taking the Route Napoleon and the weather is very changeful it can be a good idea to form a loose 'check in' agreement with one or two other parties. The idea is that you keep an eye out for each other when you reach Roncevalles just to make sure that you all made it ok. This can be a simple case of looking around the faces at the pilgrims meal or mass or asking "Hey did you meet an English guy called Damien tall with blond hair going over today?"
