Time of past OR future Camino
I plan to work in the el camino route summer 2017
Hi everyone,

My girlfriend walked part of the Camino Frances last September and fell in love with it. Since we both work in schools and won't have work between May and October we would really like to take the opportunity to spend this time working in a good place along the Camino. I speak fluent Portuguese, English, Castellano and basic Hungarian. My girlfriend speaks fluent Castellano, Hungarian and basic English. We both have experience in hospitality and catering. Have you ever worked in El Camino? How do we find the establishments looking for people? I've checked the classified ads in milanuncios.es but didn't find more than half a dozen job offers. Any help appreciated!

¿Alguna vez has trabajado en El Camino? ¿Cómo encontramos los establecimientos que estan buscando personas? He comprobado los anuncios clasificados en milanuncios.es pero no he encontrado más de media docena de ofertas de trabajo. ¡Cualquier ayuda apreciada!

Saludos!

David

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hi, you could try sending a simple, short email, in Spanish, to lots of private albergues along the caminos, and see what response you get. Gook luck :)

I suggest you look at
www.caminosantiago.org/cpperegrino/hospitaleros/hospitaleros.asp (or Google 'Camino hospitaleros')
This is the site for the Spanish Association of the Friends of the Camino de Santiago. They organize unpaid volunteers to staff many of the 'donativo' albergues along the Camino. This site will give you the email address to apply and phone number. I am a member of this organisation and have been a hospitalero. They will not give you a posting lasting more than 15 days without a break, because it is not a holiday and although the vast majority of pilgrims are wonderful, there are the few who expect too much. You typically are on duty for between 12 and 17 hours per day. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful experience and shows another side of the Camino. You normally have to do a course, but there are alternatives you will find out about after you have expressed interest.
Of course private will be happy to accept unpaid workers, but many will have a tendency to give you the shitty (literally) jobs and work you very hard.
You could also send a PM to Rebecca Scott who is a member of this forum and organizes hospitaleros for a couple of Albergues at San Anton and Grado (on the Primitivo).

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Have a look here also https://www.workaway.info/ if you type Camino/pilgrims etc in the search for Spain, you get quite some results. However, the typical offer is 25 hours/week work in exchange for free bed and board, but no pay.
