Tent? Sleeping Bag? Porto --> Santiago

I will be walking from Porto to Santiago in July. I'd like to avoid the weight of a sleeping bag and a tent. However, if there are nice, safe places to camp I would consider bringing the items. Does anyone have a thought or suggestion?

Tortuga9, unfortunately wild camping in Portugal it’s forbidden. This would make you obligated to stay in Federated Camping Parks which you can only get access with a Camping License (and which there are not a lot in the Caminho Route).

I recommend for you to stay in the Albergues, and to take a light weight/ultra light sleeping bag with you (or a liner sleeping bag).

We are on the France Camino now and had our tent etc. . Speed to santiago due to the weight we are using the alberges and cheaper hotels. Good luck with your Camino

If you are taking walking poles then consider an ultralight tent if you want to take something. They use your walking poles as supports, weigh less than a kilo and cost the same as a backpacking tent. Most are better than similarly priced traditional tents too.

We cycled from Sintra up to Santiago and camped much of the way. We were under the impression that it was ok to wild camp as long as you were not within 1km of a campsite, and there were no sign forbidding it. (as in Spain) In practise if you pitch on a unused/wild area or in a picnic area at dusk, no-one seems to mind. Any passers-by wish you 'Boa noite'. As with any camping, leave only footprints....
