Camino Portuguese ( July 2015 )
Hello Pelegrinos / Pelegrinas .

Sadly My pilgrimage has to end us on 25th of July , thus , I will be leaving Santiago for My Flight from Madrid early 25 Morning. My Flight from Madrid would be @10 AM and WIll be arriving @8AM After leaving from Santiago @ 6AM ,,,, I trust God That Ill get My Flight .
However , I'm not concern about my Flight , as Much I'm Concerned on Missing the Butofumeiro on July 25. I will be able to attend the Night Eve of Santiago Fiesta , but while reading , it came to be that the Butofumeiro is only displayed during the Fiesta Day. Can someone confirm that to me ?

Thanks and God Bless

I'm confused. I'm arriving in Santiago may 27 Wednesday (2 days). When does the B swing? I thought noon and was timing my arrival.

When does the B swing? I thought noon
The botafumeiro swings when someone pays for it. A municipal consortium has paid to have it swing at the 1930 mass each Friday. Otherwise, it is random. It can swing at any mass, as many as four to five times per day, or not at all. It does not automatically swing at the noon pilgrim mass. Many groups walk the Camino in the summer, and pay for a swinging, so you may get lucky.

I was just in Santiago last week (week of May 25th) . The Butofumeiro swung at the noon mass on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and I heard even Thursday. I believe lots of people are willing to pay to see it swing. I would say the odds are in your favor to see it swing.

Does the Botafumerio always swing before the start of Mass?
When we saw the Botafumerio swing, it was before the start of Mass on 8 December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. If we had not been in the church at least 20-30 minutes before the official time to "start" we would have missed the swinging. If you wanted a seat, you needed to be there earlier still - but it was a major Feast Day.
Mass at the cathedral with or without the botafumerio is still Mass - sacred, historical, and filled with God's love.

From what I have seen, the noon (Pilgrim's) mass attracts a lot of bused in tourist. And the tour companies, or someone, gets it swinging.
The down side is that the cathedral is filled with tourist (who, in my view, are pilgrims also). Twice we have arrived at 11-ish, and made the noon mass, and it is a great, but it is SRO.
The noon mass is the only one I have attended, and I think it is specifically for the blessing of the pilgrims. Someone please correct me if that is wrong.
BTW, the butofumeiro is the big attraction, but hearing that nun's beautiful voice fill the cathedral is very special.

The Mass will definitely outcome the Botafumerio , and to be Honest , i was quite surprised to know that people actually Pay for it to swing .. I First Thought it is just a major event during St James Fiesta.
My Main concentration would remain on the Walk and the Blessing of St James....
