The Camino Just got a bit longer

Just a little heads up that all of the caminos that enter Santiago via the Puerta do Camiño (so those that pass Monte de Gozo: Francés, Primitivo, Norte) just got about 1,7km longer, temporarily.

On Thursday work starts on repairing the old bridge over the AP-9, the one with the horribly uneven planks that twist ankles and break the tips of your walking sticks.

The work is expected to take "some months."

I never understood this part. The sign in Roncevalles reads 790km Santiago, after having walked 25 km from SJPP! Aren't we at 815 km before side trips and detours?
All depends on which alternatives you took along the way. Did you take the option to pass by Samos before you reached Sarria? A number of other places where there is more than one way to go. And almost every year the Camino Frances gets re-routed because of road construction or some other problem. Unless someone is actually logging their whole journey step by step with GPS then any figure is only going to be an estimate. Personally the distance to the next fuente, bar or bed is the only one I really care about.

I found those poles along parts of the way, every one Km very annoying. Dragged the day out no end.

That new link above says 4 months worth of work, not too bad.
As for the distance to Santiago it is important to remember that the sign in Roncesvalles, among others, is a ROAD sign meant for drivers. The camino cuts a different path.

Still though I can't figure out where the 799 figure came from.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

That's the distance by car.

Two of my caminos I passed that sign, 790kms, and due to you, only just realized it was meant for vehicles. Shame, after all I was raised in a must-have-a-car culture: Los Angeles. Well, maybe those NYC non-driving years dulled my vehicular sense.
