The City of Culture...wow!

I was flipping through Ivar and JohnnieWalker's photos of their recent stroll through SDC (see other thread) but was struck on the last photo of the alien space ship rising off the top of a nearby hill. Some internet sleuthing revealed it was not a spaceship but a new culture center/building complex, ten years in the making, called the City of Culture:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Culture_of_Galicia

Never having heard of it before, I have about a million questions about it, many for Ivar and JohnnieWalker (or others) who live in SDC:

- How has this large building complex been received by the residents of the city? Was it a controversial project and, if so, does it remain so today?
- Do you think this complex has, or will, become part of the visiting itinerary for a pilgrim arriving in Santiago?
- On the official City of Culture website there's one photo with the Cathedral reflected in a large glass facade of the newer building, but I can't find a similar photo anywhere else on the web- are the buildings really close enough for this effect or was this a "photo image" as they call doctored photos these days?

I find even the internet photos of this project fascinating- might be enough to make me pick up the ol' walking staff again...

Hi Telluridewalker,

I remembered a few earlier posts about this project and have found a couple, one with a video in English. My impression was that there's not much there, it's the subject of a lot of local scorn as a grandiose project with a huge overrun budget, but as Ivar says in one of the posts, the views are lovely from there!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Sorry, rookie mistake- I should have checked the forum archives first. Both Ivar and Falcon have posted about this previously, although their posts didn't get many replies. My impression from my internet research is that two of the six buildings are completed but that the rest will be delayed due to lack of funding and cost overruns.
