Hi: I had seen that schedule as well, but what we found when we arrived at the ferry dock in Caminha last month (July 2016) was that there would be a 4.5 hour wait for the next ferry due to low tides. Fortunately there was someone driving past that saw us and suggested that we walk up near the mouth of the river (about 3km) to see if Mario could take us across in his boat. We were able to find Mario and arrange that for 5 euros each. It was also a nice walk along the river.

Olá Doogman, Many thanks for your post about low tides. Yes, sometimes it´s a problem. Last year, they dug out the port but not deep enough. When Mario is there, the problem is solved! Maybe there is no ferry on mondays after high season.I try to get a now timetable.[/QUOTE]

It's Monday September 5 2016 and we are in Cahmina wanting to cross to A Guarda tomorrow; but can't find anything on line about the schedule , low water delays or how to purchase tickets.....also how to find Mario at the head of the bridge ( which bridge? ) can anyone help ?
Thanks
Jon

At the moment, there aren´t any online informations on the Municipio de Caminha website. A forecast about low water doesn´t exist. The price per person is 1 € and you pay on the ferry. Well, if there is a delay and you want to take Mario´s boat, you´ll find him at the campsite, but it´s a way back.

bom caminho, Rainer

Hi: In July we were able to find Mario by walking along the river towards the ocean to a beach near the mouth of the river. It is about 3km from the ferry dock. We asked a couple of people and they pointed him out to us. He took us across for 5 Euros each. Good luck!

In early July, found out no ferry was running on the Sunday morning needed. With others in the albergue, we arranged for taxi for 4 people, I think 6 euro each. A 6am pickup, quick ride, to other side, started walking from there.

Olá peregrinos, there is a brandnew timetable for the ferry:
https://telemarinas.com/nuevos-hora...rtes-dia-6-hasta-el-domingo-11-de-septiembre/
For the newest schedule type right above ferry in the search funktion

No ferry on Mondays! Also when the water is low! Unfortunately there isn´t any forecast about low water.

Well . . . from the ferry timetable, you can tell that high tide, on Saturday 10 Sep, must be between 11:00 and 13:30, as that is when the ferry is operating.

That agrees with this prediction:

http://tides.mobilegeographics.com/locations/6776.html

which states that high tide (in Vigo, not so far away) on 10 Sep is at 10:50, and low tide is at 17:12 (5:12pm).

By changing the dates on the above website, for a given area, you can see when high tide occurs (and the ferry is running), and low tide occurs (no ferry service).

Olá Jill, many thanks for this helpful info. Good to know where you can get information.

Anyone been through caminha lately? I'm trying to figure out the ferry schedule for Sunday July 30th 2017, but their website is not mobile friendly.
Can anyone tell me what time of day it runs across the river please please?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Jill, did you have a problem with the visa for the group? The Durban visa agent says that the Portugese Consul will want an 'official means of transport' into Spain from Caminha. They appently won't accept 'walking' & obviously we can't pre-book the ferry.

Old threads can be deceiving. N'est pas?
I walked to Caminha on 17.7.17 and found there had been a beer festival there over the weekend. That would have been nice to know ;) but the other "nice to know" was the ferrymen who operate the crossing six days a week had worked overtime over the weekend and decided to take Monday off when I got to the dock at noon.
