I have now ordered to of J. Brierley's newest guide to CF, and BOTH of them came with the inside front cover page partially glued to itself.

What this means is that I can't read the full names of three of the cities on three of the steps.

Now typically, I would just deal with it and not fuss---but doggone it, that is NOT a cheap guidebook!

Has anyone else encountered this printing glitch?

I've even written John; he wrote me back. That was before the SECOND messed up book arrived.

So frustrating.

Ooooh, thanks for the heads-up - I've got one on its way to me right now! I should have it within the next day or two, so I'll report back. How annoying, that part is a really useful feature. If the same has happened to mine I might just take the hint and order the yellow guide too!

I have the new yellow ("German") Outdoor guide in my hands right now. It has a very nice look and feel and a lot of information, and I am quite impressed. I was thinking of ordering a new maps-only Brierley guide if I were doing the CF again, but now I think I'd go with the yellow one.
Can you tell me if the yellow German guide available now in print, or only as an e-book?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
That is brilliant. Thanks! I had looked on Amazon (UK) and no mention of print version. Obviously Ivar (as we would expect) is ahead of the pack!
By the way, that yellow guide does not include much information about private accommodation more expensive than about €13.

I ordered and received mine...it was okay. You are right..."not a cheap guidebook"

Make sure that you are looking at the inside facing front cover; John Brierley wrote me back and said that the problem would be resolved for the next edition....implying that it was a problem for all of the books for this edition.

I'm sorry, I don't see where the shop link is - can you steer me in the right direction please :)

Yes the English yellow Outdoor guide is available now in print. See the Camino Forum Shop link.

As I want to have all my guides in E-form I recently purchased the on-line English first edition (2015) of the yellow Outdoor guide.

I looked at the three variants between Tricastella and Sarria to see how they were dealt with and was impressed.
Less impressive was the icons against each town/village etc were minuscule and did not resize. And the language was a bit stilted in places.

I am pleased to have this Guide and will use it along with a scanned version of Brierley (2015).

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Here is an image of the problem on the two guides that were sent to me. As you can see, the name "Carrion" is partially unreadable. Three steps are like that.

My advice: Send both copies back and demand reimbursement for the postage/packing. Even if the books left the distributor in good order the packaging was obviously not "weather proof". If the distributors will not come to the party contact Ivar and order a copy of the German Yellow guide book. Good luck

P_S I see you have ordered a copy of the Yellow Book - smart. M

I think that this is rather an over-reaction; yes, it's a slight irritation but only on the inside cover; it doesn't seem like there are any pages missing that might justify demanding a replacement; specialist publishers have a hard enough time making money

Huh, well mine is the same (2016). I never noticed

My new Brierley guide has now arrived and yep, it has the same problem - the cover is too closely glued so the inside edge of the first page with stage maps is obscured. It probably affects the entire print run. Very annoying! I checked my last year's edition and it was almost doing the same thing, with a fold in the same place, but that could be pulled back as it wasn't glued down like the new one.

Initially, I wrote to Mr. Brierley and told him that I was going to have to order another copy, and send the current one back. At that time, he did not tell me that it was a print run issue, so I did order a replacement, which also arrived in the same condition.

Later, he implied that he knew.

He also sent me a page to print out and glue over the defective steps, but that just looks like it could look messy.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi via Anderson,
Welcome to the Forum. Here is a link to another thread discussing the yellow guide. It is a series of guidebooks to different caminos, written in German. The Camino Frances version has recently been translated into English.
https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...ino-frances-is-now-available-in-english.35129

It is available in Ivar's store and probably on places like Amazon.com.

Some of the earlier comments describe the yellow guide as being available in kindle format, but apparently that is no longer the case. It's available just as a print copy.

I found the Kindle version on Amazon. But I do not want my face on a tiny smartphone all day. I think I need a hard paper guide.

With all deference to Ivar, and because I live on this side of the pond, I searched using the ISBN for printed version of the yellow guide: ISBN 9783866865174

I found it new, on the Amazon marketplace for a delivered price of USD 17.81. The price is comparable to Ivar's shop, but the logistics work better for me I think.

We shall see.

I downloaded Raismund Joos' Yellow Guide for kindle ex Amazon UK three days ago and reported my quick appreciation at post #14 above.

Quite right about the smart phone. A lot of stuff just doesn't work (for human eyes or fingers) on smart phones. Even those with a largish screen.

Which is why tablet (with a decent sized screen) that is also a phone is a great boon. And with about 6 guides (four distinct trips this northern season) and multi page maps , the weight saving is ginormous.

I've always had ipad envy , especially when struggling to look at directions on my small phone screen, in the rain! (Impossible!)
But I've always resisted the urge to bring mine (334g difference :D) and also the worry about what to do with the wretched thing (showers? going for a walk?)
But I do understand why you think it is a good idea :) And I am still very envious

worry about what to do with the wretched thing (showers? going for a walk?

I have an (Android) tablet and have a dry sac (purchased with something else) that is a suitable size for my machine.

In my training so far I have not done many multi-day trips, staying in hostels or similar. But I noticed all others in my rooms had their own devices, so envy was minimised, on those occasions at least. I've rationalised the tablet is in greater jeopardy if I tote it around with me. So I put it in its dry sac and stuff the package down into my pack. And try not to flash it about at other times.

By way of back up I plan to have all my files (guides, maps, GPX tracks, photos and diaries) copied to a SD card kept in a different place. Should I have replace (and make an insurance claim) I would minimise my recovery time.

However, as Robert Burns said: "The best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray."

I LOVE your profile picture! That's one of my favorites and is my Facebook profile pic.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
What is the name of the Yellow guide book? Is it in English?

There have been a few threads discussing this book, here's one of them: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...no-frances-is-now-available-in-english.35129/

It is for sale in Ivar's store, check here: https://www.santiagodecompostela.me...ntiago-finisterre-outdoor-the-way-is-the-goal

The book is part of a very popular German series with guides to many different Caminos. The author has had the Camino Frances guide translated into English, and maybe more will follow. I have walked many different caminos and always tried to latch myself onto a German speaker with a yellow guide because they are chock full of good detailed information, IMO.

Hi Clearly

I clearly understand the problem.
The problem is like the packing of your backpack: If you want to take all informations in the book is will bee too heavy and big.
To describe a pesion per village would not be enough. This would fully booked very quickly. So I have to choose my priorities as this also the most pilgrims see
So I describe the albergues to 13 € as accurately as possible.
It is good to know which albergue is really good . So you also will not need a private accommodation so often.

Bon Camino

Raimund

Ps: Will be on the way from 09.03 to 09.04.

I understand the problem too. I just wanted people to know what they were getting, so they wouldn't be disappointed if that is what they were looking for. I don't think you need to include the more expensive accommodation since that can easily be obtained from Internet apps as a supplement to your guide..

Hi C claerly

I am back from the camino and now find the time to answer your commend.

I agree. A good way to find out what you will get is just to study the pdf with the sample . (paperbackversion - Edition 2016):

http://www.camino-de-santiago.de/e-book.pdf

And here is the link to a nice page for more expensive accommodations.
