The Inglés - how are things there?

What's the current situation on the Inglés?

If I was to start in Ferrol in a couple of weeks time, for example, does anyone know how things are along the route at the moment?

And, continuing onwards, how are things along the Muxia/Fisterra loop too?

@JohnLloyd

I copied this from my covid post - Its the local news site for Galicia

Local news in Spain is hard to find but I find this weblink for news in Galicia very helpful, depending on your browser the webpage translates into English.

if you choose to register you can pick your topics, I chose any COVID topics so that I know what’s happening locally. In my case I’m interested in the Camino Inglese and I can keep an eye on the local outbreak in Betanzos.

If you sign up for the daily email it can help with your Spanish too 😁

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I see - that's not positive news.

I think I've been lulled into a false sense of normalcy by the delightful stories I'm reading on Camino Facebook groups of current walkers on the Francés, which have encouraged me to believe that a third Camino for me was feasible after all this year.

I'm aware of the local lockdowns that have been initiated here and there, with the obvious risk of a mid-walk postponement always in the wind.

Best to keep an eye on things and see how they develop.

Seems like most of it is in high density population areas, but not certain about that.

For me? I am having a sale and closing down my CaminoStore shop end of the month (profits go towards my first aid supplies), packing my dreams away and will not think Camino again until 2021 - maybe by then it will be more normal but maybe by then my mission/addiction will have passed and I may never visit again - who knows these things ....

Hello David - thanks for the nudge towards your shop! I have bought a few things!

You might wish to return the favour by buying a copy of my Camino book...!

My plan as well was to start the Inglés in August and continue on the Finisterre-Muxia-Santiago loop. I have had everything in place since several months including flights and some accommodation pre-booking and I have been in a state of ‘wait and see until the last moment’. Lately, I have not had high hopes of being able to go considering the general Corona-situation in Spain and last week the decision was finally taken for me when Vueling canceled my flights – so now I am hoping for next year and looking forward to another round of Camino-planning :)

Who knows, David, who knows indeed.
What was once a central pillar of my life has become unstable and uncertain. The covid earthquake shook my life and I am struggling to pick up the pieces left behind.

Very well stated, Felice...you speak for me in many ways. I totally relate to your disappointment.

@JohnLloyd, in case you are not aware of this, the regional government of Galicia has set up a website for the albergues they own, see here the part that concerns their albergues on the Camino Ingles: https://alberguesxacobeo.gal/caminos/camino-ingles/

It shows you which albergues are open and there is even a reservation option.

Wow, albergue de Neda looks like a brand new building (I was there in 2016 last time). New facade, new entrance,...

https://www.gronze.com/foros/general/camino-ingles-finalizado-experiencia - a recent report from someone who walked during 6-11 July 2020 with a few details about the situation in albergues on the Inglés.

So basically: no practical issues. Decent, clean affordable accommodation which has made changes to how they operate in the light of Covid available on each stage. Intermediate catering absent in parts, but manageable.

My Spanish is far from fluent, but that’s what I understood.

Have I missed anything? (Specifically with respect to the text linked by Kathar1na, not second-hand speculation)

Thank you very much for the splendid little pack that has just arrived at my door - and thank you for the unexpected extras too! A bright reminder of the Camino on a Friday!
