The Road Not Taken

Via de la Plata / Portuguese / Ingles / Levante
Time of past OR future Camino
Via de la Plata, Portuguese, Ingles, Levante
I often wonder why I choose a quieter Camino where, much of the time, all you have are your thoughts your dreams and reflections. And the new friends that I might have made had I taken a different route. I wonder if, in making that choice, my life has taken a path that is different to the path that I would have taken had I chosen a different camino. Of course, we make these choices every day and never comprehend what the outcome might have been had we gone the other way. I often reflect on the words of Robert Frost (link below), "the road less travelled", and I am grateful that, overall, the paths that I have chosen have been good to me. And I am happy with that. The important thing is to not stand still, but choose a path and go with it. Buen Camino.

Sometimes the path chooses you.

Is there regret in the poem or not? The sigh could be read either way (- another example of choices and ways!).
I suspect many like to feel different and not be following the common herd, yet unless we break completely new territory we are all in the footsteps of others. Even in the poem it is the less travelled, not the untravelled.
I often think back to when i chose between one job and another, both good jobs, but one was returning to a city I knew and the other was something different in my experience. I chose the latter and have cause to consider myself very fortunate. So I look back with gratitude and occasionally wonder what life I might be living now if I had made a different choice - who could possibly say, and what would be the point . But I dont spend long doing that, except to count the blessings in the choice which led me on this path. I think malingerer is right, my path chose me, you just have to follow your instincts then make the most of it.

My humble view is that one can only walk one Camino at any given time... The Camino you walk today will not be there tomorrow.

So enjoy the moment and have no regrets about the Camino you might have walked had you taken a different path.

Remember - you cannot change what happened yesterday, but you may be able to change what happens tomorrow. Life is too short for extended regrets.

Last year on my camino I was a bit annoyed when someone back home told me to enjoy my vacation. I bristled. Why did that word annoy me so much? I was on a pilgrimage! Anyway, I'm about to embark...
I'm looking for the best app to use whilst walking on the Camino. Usually I just rely on my Apple watch but I'm leaving that at home, so need an app use that I can pause at rest stops etc...
Everyone talks about the wonderful café con leche, but what if tea is more to your liking? Can you even get tea along the Camino (Frances)? I don’t drink coffee but my morning cup of tea is...
Hey all. I haven't been on the forum for quite sometime (years probably). I walked the Camino Frances in 2016 and to say it was life changing for me is an understatement. On day 3, at the café at...
The logical thing for me to do is bring a Kindle, but TBH I like books, and for me leaving electronic gubbins behind while I do the Camino, appeals. I am thinking of taking one book on The...
