The history of the Way of Saint James’ is the story of the only European itinerary originally born as spiritual. It is a pilgrimage much more difficult and uncertain than the one to Rome, the other important spiritual centre of the West. However it is Santiago that revives again and again in the European imagery. Thus, both in the past and present, the Western journey to Compostela is an endless journey. In a double sense is an experience that marks the pilgrims for live, and at the same time provides them with as many answers as questions.
