Buen camino,

Tomorrow I'm walking through Ponferrada. It has been cold on the CF these past days and it will get even cooler and rainy. Does anyone have tips on where to get warmer clothes in Ponferrada, but not too far off the camino as I will be walking on and don't want to waste too much time and energy.

Thanks!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
There is a decent sized Decathlon in Ponferrada abou a 20min walk from the castle: https://www.google.com/maps/place/D...=2ahUKEwiIlKzV77L6AhUKSPEDHf5yDMQQ_BJ6BAhREAU

Depending on what you need, i from personal experience recommend the following items:
Fleece MH20 ca 170g, gives a nice boost in warmth, ca 3-5€
Fleece MH100 ca 210g, longer neck, thicker material, ca 8-10€
Gloves Trek 100 ca 25g, gives nice warm hands in the morning and evening, ca 3€
Necktube MT500 (similar to buff), gives warm neck, can double as hat, i like the Merino, ca 10-12€
Trouser SH500, i use this for walking my dog at freezing point or below, likely to warm for the camino

Thank you for your reply. That seems like a good option. Any tips on picking the Camino back up from the Decathlon?

If there are any Pilgrim shops on the camino with a good collection that would be an option too (although probably lots more expensive). Perhaps someone recalls.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Just north of Decathlon is the Calle Camino de Santiago. It may not be the official one but head northwest on it (maybe on a bus) and it (orange line) connects to the camino (black line) as seen on the second map.

You can just follow the Av.Galicia out of the city and meet the Camino back in Camponaraya. Likely not as beautiful as the usual route, but from what it looks on the map also likely a bit shorter.

I was in Ponferrada yesterday and the Camino just passed the old town that haven’t much more than the castle and bars. Saw one clothes shop but it was more fancy dresses and scarfs. There is a bazar at C. San Valerio, 5 I was never in but I self equipped my self in a store like that a couple of days ago. If you take the alternative route into Ponferrada (the one passing the albergues) you will come quite close. I put a cross on the map. When leaving you will come quite close to Decathlon (1 km) you can walk Avenida de Liverdad to come to the the Camino a bit further away than you left it.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Usually I walk Sept and into October. I always bring a pair of lightweight thermals - black. Sleep in them and in cold weather use them as an under layer. Buen Camino.

This is exactly what I did. I stopped at that Decathlon and got some needed equipment and then followed Avenue Galicia out. The day I did it it wasn’t incredibly busy, just a walk in the city.

I visited this Decathalon when my wife and I were exploring Ponferrada after a short day walking from Riego de Ambros. As others have said, it is a relatively short walk to rejoin the Camino route if you are planning to walk through Ponferrada rather than stay. I also recall that it the Decathalon is quite near to a McDonalds, useful at the time for having good free wifi even if you aren't enamoured by their food.
