Tips for VdlP: I am managing without a book but if they weren't so expensive I would suggest you get one. Times lost: 4 ie one per day. Not terrible but takes time and energy.
All albergues so far fantastic: La Luz in Guilenna, municipal ones in Castilblanco, Almadén and Monesterio.
When entering Monesterio, ie the final section where you are walking the same way as the motorway, there is a pretty path right beside, most of the way, through avenues of plane trees and wild flowers, that is much better than the hard shoulder, but you do have to keep your eyes open for the yellow arrows. Other pilgrims missed it, and on days like today it saves your sore feet a little and offers some shade.
Enjoy!

Hi Tasmin, I walked as far as Cáceres quite recently. We found the way well marked and easy to follow - BUT I was walking with a friend who was a whizz at spotting the ole flechas amarillas!! Re guidebooks, I didn't have one but I found both the Wise Pilgrim and Eroski apps for the phone super useful. I tend to keep my phone on airplane mode while walking but found that if I loaded the maps in the WP app for the day's walking while using wifi at the albergue, I could double check the route when we were in any doubt... I found the maps very reliable. Buen camino. Wish I was still walking!

I’m at Almadén de la Plata at the moment, and my options for tomorrow are to go as far as El Real de la Jara (approx 14km) or continue on to Monesterio (approx 34km). 34 km is a bit far for day 4...
For anyone around Sevilla, next Saturday marks the end of the annual week long fiesta. I have just had a conversation, as I do weekly (to help her with English), with a friend who is from there...
One route looks a bit steeper, one a bit longer (not much). How else are they different? Recommendations?
