Tips on finding the sea glass beach before Baiona?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
We will be walking the Portuguese route in March and would like to see the sea glass beach before Baiona. Are there any tips on how to find it? Thanks

The first I had ever heard of this beach was in one of @jungleboy’s posts. He notes that it is between Oia and Baiona, so you should be able to figure out how to get there from the coastal/litoral.

A little more googling now shows that it is very popular, called the Praia dos Cristais.

Google maps shows its location. Screen shot below.

Note — It is prohibited to remove sea glass. Totally understandable, because we know what would soon happen to sea glass beach if everyone took a handful.

I have wondered about this beach ever since Nick posted about it. If these are the remains of a landfill, what happened to the rest of the garbage in the landfill? Did it all just soak into the ocean? Maybe there was some sort of official cleanup?

Thank you so much! And thank you for the reminder to me (& to others reading this thread) not to remove any of the sea glass! I work in a Conservation Area so I can totally relate! Happy Holidays!

If you end up staying in Oia, let me recommend the Albergue La Cala It’s just a bit south of the beach where you want to explore for sea glass.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Isn’t it strange that in many places one would be discouraged from leaving litter and here one is prohibited from removing it.

Whoops, I did take a few pieces of sea glass when I was there in August... lesson learned and won't do it again! I've been collecting sea glass since I was a kid, and visiting this beach was a must when I heard of it. It's incredible! I even had a sea otter encounter there!

It's not difficult to get to, you just need to know where it is so that you can make just a slight detour from the Camino when you're in the area- @peregrina2000 gave great info, that should be all you need to find it! (following the litoral will take you VERY close, the official coastal path is just a bit inland)
