I've stayed at 1,2,4, and 8. They stand out as places where I felt warmly welcomed and cared for.

What do you think? Which other albergues deserve a place in the top ten?

The best albergues are not necessarily those with the best facilities. I would certainly place #1 & 2 at the top of the list, chiefly on account of the deep personal commitment of the hospitaleros at both albergues. It’s no coincidence that both of these are donativos. My top ten would also include the municipal albergues at Merida and Salamanca because of their sympathetic staff and splendid situation. I also have very fond memories of the albergues at Olivia de Plasencia (worth the detour) and Lubian, both small and unstaffed, their isolation tending to encourage sociability. It was in these albergues that I met some of the most delightful pilgrims en route. If you’re reading this, Charlotte, Elzbieta, Vincenzo and Eda, thank you for such congenial company.
