Camino Portugues (2019)
My sister, niece and I are planning to walk the Camino from Porto to Santiago from May 1 to Tuesday May 14, 2019 with a couple of days on either end for travel from Boston.
We are planning to use a tour operator to book lodging and arrange for transport of our big back packs.
I am looking at Portugal Green Walks, Follow the Camino and Spanish Adventures. Any recommendations?
I have read the Pros/Cons of using a tour operator. We are planning to use one this time because it is our first Camino, we don't have unlimited time, and we just want to walk stress free.
Thanks for any advice.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I used the app Booking.com and had success finding own lodging. Here is where we stayed. Easy to book. Easy to cancel. Luggage service available.

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
We used Portuguese Green Walks last May and everything went well. This year we will walk the Francés and with the confidence gained through last year’s experience, we will simply find places along the way as we walk. Using the tour operator made the unfamiliar less stressful, but did add to the cost. They suggested rest day places and we really enjoyed our extra day in Ponte de Lima.
I have a day by day video of our walk at:
May was a wonderful time of year. Enjoy your walk!

Make sure you plan to spend a day or two (or more) in Porto. It is a great city. Caminoways and Macs Adventures are two more popular tour operators that offer the Camino Portugues.
Thanks. We are staying 2 nights in Porto.

Why do you need to use a booking service. I walked from Lisbon to Santiago and never ever had trouble finding accommodation. You do not need to book ahead. Just take along the Brierley guide. It lists all the albergues, pensions, hotels and casa rurals along the way.
If you dont want to carry your packs just send them on to the next town using one of the carrying services. You will find the envelopes for this at your chosen accommodation.

Thanks for all the info.

We used Macs Adventure on our first Camino Frances. Great if u are a couple & want shared accommodations. I also found that we were able to enjoy daily walks at our own pace with comfort of guaranteed room. Breakfast was always set out for us and we got to meet lovely people and share great meals with fellow Pilgrims. Would do it again. 🙂

For my first Camino I also used a tour operator, which worked well. Since then I have been the unofficial tour operator with friends on 4 subsequent caminos. After the first you will be very comfortable on your own. One piece of advice, do not select a half board option, gives you more freedom to eat when and where you want.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

A friend and I used Portugal Green Walks 2 years ago and they were a fantastic tour operator. Much better than others I've used including Macs Adventures. Green Walks is a local Portuguese company and they provided much nicer standard of accommodation - some really charming places. They were extremely responsive to a few issues/needs we had along the way. Highly recommended!

Thanks so much. Glad to hear that you liked Portugal Green Walks because they are my first choice since we are doing the Camino Portugues.

I would agree with not taking the half board option. We want to have some flexibility.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
