Train back to Porto from Santiago

Hi! i will start my camino Portogues 20-21july iám looking forward to it. but i have one question, after finished i must get back to Porto, is there any trains or busses whom goes to Porto from Santiago.

Hi, yes there are both. I am away on Camino at the moment but can post back timetables in next day or two. Please post your departure date and time and if you want to spend any time in Porto or just want to go straight to airport.

There are currently 3,buses per day between Santiago and Oporto airport. See below for times, duration and price. You. can book through international section of alsa webste

Oh, i am so greatful if you would like to send me the timetable. i guess i will be in Porto saturday 3august or sunday 4august. My flight is on monday 5august at 8.50 in the morning.

I took the bus to Porto city in early June - great service - but we were advised to book out tickets the day before our journey.

Take the Alsa bus, there is no direct train back to Oporto or the airport.

But as recommended book your ticket well in advance. Back in June (when Alsa was only operating one bus daily to Oporto) our friend was shut out on getting on the bus, and fortunately was able to grab one of two remaining seats on the next day bus.

With 3 daily buses things might be a bit better but it is also peak tourist season in August.

Remind that if you book the ALSA bus on line on beforehand, they do NOT accept foreign creditcards. only spanish cards are accepted as we unfortunately found out.
You can pay by Pay pal so if you do ,do not forget your pay pal password. Crazy system of ALSA. If you call them, nobody speaks english !
At last we booked the bus through the Santiago Tourist office, allmost next door of the Santiago Camino office where you obtain your Compostela certificate
the Tourist office charges you a little fee for booking the bus. you also can book at the bussation which is about 20 minutes walk from the center of Santiago but better is booking in advance as soon as you 'll reach Santiago . .It can be busy at the busterminal and maybe the bus is fully booked.

Taking the train is also possible but takes a long time traveling by Vigo and there you have to change because Spanish trains have wider railtracks than Portugese trains. so the best is to take the bus. Takes you about 4 hours to get from Santiago to Porto.

Hi, the timetable was embedded in previous post. Use the link to check your own dates/times and to actually book. Trains are infrequent and involve at least one change as well as metro ride out to the airport. http://Www.cp.pt has information on the international service from Vigo to Porto. There are regular trains from Santiago to vigo but only two per day (early morning and mid evening) rom vigo to Porto.

I'll be aiming to get the bus to Oporto airport in late June next year. Do you think if I book it with 3days in advance at the Santiago bus station or the above mentioned tourist office be plenty of time to get 2 seats?

The Turist office books you on line - asks a small booking fee- if you are over 60 years - they call it in Spanish " tercera edad" you 'll get a discount- so you pay moreless the price if you could book yourself online because few people know about the discount..
As soon as they book you and confirm you ,you will have a seat at the bus.

LOok at the cityplan of Santiago where the busstation is. You arrive at the scond floor where is a kind of restaurant (bad service when we were there ) to the busses you'll have to descend to the lower floor. When we were there the bus stopped at linea 19 or 20 but better ask before.
The busses are comfortable and the scenery is great. You'll end up at a busstation in Porto as where is a metrostation to travel to the airport.

I took that bus last September and it stopped at the Porto airport before it went on to the bus station in Porto.

Even if you are staying in Oporto you may want to get off at the airport and take the Metro into the city. Chances are you will get a lot closer to your hotel that way.

Where would the bus stop in Porto? And which metro station is the nearest to this stop?
