Train from Barcelona to Pamplona

I plan on leaving Barcelona and traveling to Pamplona by train. Do you know if I would leave from the Barcelona Sants Train Station? If so, will there be a direct train route to Pamplona (because I don't read/speak Spanish and worried about changing trains)? Also, should I buy my ticket online ahead of time? (I'm traveling at the end of June 2018) ...my other worry is that when I arrive in Pamplona, it won't coincide with the Bus Schedule to get to SJDP.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I always use the German rail site webpage to check out times for any train trip in Europe. Thanks to whomever gave me that tip here on the forum years ago. https://www.bahn.com/i/view/index.shtml You can see there is a good choice of trains to Pamplona from Barcelona.

Public transportation is so good in Spain that you can really get pretty much anywhere in a reasonable time, but if you haven't bought your tickets yet (and if you aren't planning on spending time visiting Barcelona), I think going into Madrid is slightly easier for getting to Pamplona. You can, in fact, get a bus to Pamplona right from the Madrid Airport. And it may also be easier for getting back to from Santiago.

Now, I know you didn't ask about this, but just in case it might help others who are planning a trip, adding the internal legs (Madrid to Pamplona and Santiago to Madrid) to your round trip international ticket may be not much more expensive than the round trip ticket into Madrid, at least if you are flying on Iberia or a One World partner like American or British Airways. Check the "multi city" option when searching for flights if you want to check it out. Barcelona to Pamplona involves going back to Madrid, so if you want to fly, you should definitely choose the Madrid point of arrival in Spain. I have done this for years now, and it really makes the travel much easier. This year I am starting in Almería and will fly into Madrid, have a few hours in the airport, fly to Almería, and be there by 1 pm. Train options would have gotten me in to Almería at 9:30 that night. Coming home from Santiago is also easy. Early morning flight to Madrid gets there in time for most US-bound flights.

Buen camino, and safe travels, Laurie

I didn't see the schedules for June on trainline.eu but on April 20th there are multiple trains (every two or three hours). There are both direct (3h45m) and train change schedules. I'd opt for the direct and when I looked at the fares, it's only a couple of Euros more to go first class (easier bag storage etc.). The trains do leave from Saints. As for at the station or online, I always opt for online just because it's simpler and my Spanish is embarassing. There are multiple apps for purchasing tickets. I use the ones from Trainline. Some people have given the bad reviews but I've only had good experiences in my 20 uses or so. As others have stated, the Spanish transport system (both buses and trains) is really very good and easy to use. Good luck on the Camino.

Thank you for the info... I’m staying in Barcelona for 2 days... wanting to visit the Familia Sangrada and Monastery... I’m flying out (home) of Porto Portugal; going to take a train from Santiago to there as it was cheaper in terms of not flying out of Santiago... flying with TAP Portugal both ways. Any advice on this also appreciate much!!! Still need to book my train from Santiago to Porto.

Great advice on the multi city ticket. We already are flying into ( April 2nd) and out of Barcelona (May 15).
I'm now realizing that I will need to get from Santiago back to Barcelona:oops:. Any advice?
