12/2014
I will start my first Camino on December 12, 2014. I am taking a train from Paris CDG airport to Bayonne, which I can book online through "raileurope". However, I couldn't find the train booking information from Bayonne to SJPP. Could someone help? Do I need to buy this part of the train ride advance or I can just get it at the ticket window at Bayonne? BTW, I am from the US.

MaeZen:

You will have no problem getting a ticket at the train station from Bayonne to SJPdP.

Note that an Autocar has been substituted for the train; look for a bus at the front of the Bayonne train station. I think the bus currently takes you up the road a few kilometers, past the track repair work, and transfers you to the train car. No reservations are taken, but you can buy your ticket in advance. In France you composter your ticket in a machine in the station before boarding. Conductors are fairly forgiving of foreigners not knowing to do this, but passengers can be fined!

Perforer au composteur.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Use the SNCF or SNCF TER Aquitaine site. Look for passage from Bayonne to Saint Jean Pied de Port.(Entering 'SJPdP' doesn't work) or TER 62.

You can get the ticket at the station. You cannot reserve a seat on SNCF TER trains or buses (autocars)

Currently service is bus from Gare Bayonne to SJPdP.

The tracks past Cambo les Bains are washed out. Service has up to now been train from Bayonne to Cambo les Bains and bus from Cambo les Bains to SJPdP. The trip is purchased as one ticket.

There is no reason to book a train from Bayonne to SJPP in advance. It is a local train. When you arrive at the Bayonne Station you will find at least five agents. The station is very well run. If trains aren't operating, a bus is arranged in coordination with the trains to take passengers to SJPP. It is a nice train station, cafe attached. When you get to the train station, you are sold a train ticket. If a decision is made to use the buses, your train ticket is used for the bus. No worries. Very well run place. Buen Camino.

Pic of train station Bayonne. The buses are in the lot just beside the train station. Easy peasy.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Why are you flying into Paris to get to SJPDP? Flying into Barcelona or Madrid seems so much easier to me...I've been to the Camino several times, never even considered flying into Paris. From Barcelona, I took an easy bus ride to Pamplona (easy train ride as well), easy ride to SJPDP; was at SJPDP by 4pm the day of arrival from US. Plenty time to go to the Office of Pilgrims, get passport stamped, buy supplies for next day, toured the Citadelle, etc, etc... From Madrid, I have taken the bus and the train from the Barajas Airport (Terminal 4) to Pamplona, Again, could not be easier.
