Transit question London Seville

I'm planning to do part of the de la Plata in April. I can get a direct flight using air miles from the Seattle, USA to London. I would purchase my ticket from the same London airport to Seville for the same day; there are many options, but it would be a separate ticket.

If I have carry on luggage only, can I exit to a transit area after passport check to avoid going through security again?

I understand that there is no protection from flight delays with separate tickets, and plan to leave a few hours between the flights. There are many flights to Seville, so if I miss it, I could probably get something later the same day or next day. Budget is not the main concern, although I would like to use the miles I've acquired. Thanks.

I have flown from North America to London with carry-on bag only, changing to a flight to Spain, where I did have to go through security again. It likely depends on the airline(s) you are flying, and the configuration of the terminal with respect to where you fly in and where you fly out.

If you fly into London and then on into a Schengen zone airport you are entering two separate security zones. Carry-on or checked makes no difference. You will have to enter the UK in order to leave it.

There is no way to avoid customs from an international flight when entering UK and you will have to enter through security again, probably at a different terminal, to board a 'domestic' schengen zone flight.

What Tincatinker says. Also, Heathrow has several separate terminals, and flights to/from European countries generally go from a different terminal than US flights. There is a shuttle bus service that goes around the terminals, but make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the one you need. The terminal number should be shown on your booking.

ditto. I'd leave at least 3 hours between arrival and departure since one never knows how many other flights will land then and the hordes descend.
BTW can someone tell me what will change (at LHR, for example) after Brexit? Will EU passengers go the same route as folks from the US when we land--that is to ask, will my line be even longer because of mingling with EU passengers? Has anyone heard anything? Thanks.

This is one of an almost infinite number of details about the UK’s future relationship with the EU which has not yet been established.

Fortunately there are almost 400 days, less weekends, public holidays, vacations etc in which to reach agreement before the transition period ends. What could possibly go wrong?

I guess you will just have to wait and see. Airports have always been free in deciding how they organise their layout and the movement of their passengers throughout the airport. There are no EU rules about this.

It is now pretty certain that there will be a transition period from 1 February until 31 December 2020, with no change to customs rules for example. I know that one airport (not in the UK, though) is planning to re-designate their current EU channel as an EU/UK channel, so waiting lines will be just as before.
