I walked the Camino Frances in My-June 2017
Has anyone flown into Barcelona. What is the best way to get to St jean? Train or fly to san Sebastian? Any ideas please

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
Is there a reason you want to fly into Barcelona? To me, Madrid is much easier and you can get on a bus right at the airport that will take you to SJPP or Pamplona.

I am starting my Camino in April and flying into Barcelona. I thought to train to Pamplona and then taxi or bus to st jean. I thought this was the easiest way. Am i missing something?

I will be leaving Barcelona April 23 travelling by train to Pamplona and either starting my second Camino from there, or if there is no snow on the Route Napoleon, making my way by public transport to SJPDP.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I'm not sure when the CONDA bus from Pamplona to SJPdP resumes service. The schedule (on the ALSA site) is not usually updated more than a month in advance. The last couple of years service is resumed (usually with one bus daily) just prior to Easter. Otherwise its a good plan.

For me it is simpler and less expensive to fly into Madrid and walk out of the terminal and catch a bus directly from there to Pamploma.

I fly from Portland, Or or Fresno, Ca.

Take Renfe Rodalies train from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona Sants. Transfer to another line at Sants to get to Barcelona Estacion Nord.

Renfe train from Barcelona Sants to Pamplona then CONDA bus to SJPdP. The CONDA bus operates seasonally, usually from Easter to late fall. This is probably the easiest option. Note the last CONDA bus typically departs around 1800 which means you need to leave Sants by around noon.

ALSA operates buses from Estacion Nord via Zaragosa to Pamplona (The site won't give a direct link)

Vibasa (Monbus) operates buses from Barcelona Sants to Pamplona.

Or From Barcelona Sants take SNCF train to Toulouse then Toulouse to Bayonne and Bayonne to SJPdP.

Yes, a flight to San Sebastian would work although it would likely be more expensive. The airport EAS is located 3 km from Irun Renfe Station. There is an Ekialde bus from Airport to San Sebastian where there are frequent ALSA buses to Pamplona. ALSA has been offering service (in summer at least) from San Sebastian to SJPdP via either Pamplona or Biarritz (Bayonne) airport.

Or From Irun Colon station take Euskotren (Metro Donostialdea) to Hendaia (co-located gare Hendaye) . From Hendaye take SNCF train to Bayonne and SNCF TER to SJPdP. There is Transports64 bus from Hendaye but it doesn't stop at Gare Bayonne.

I flew through Smarttravel from Albuquerque to San Sebastian and back from Santiago to San Sebastian on Sept 22 returning Oct 27, 2015. I looked at the ABQ to Madrid return flight costs at $720 and only paid $772 for the above flights through Madrid. I arrived in Madrid at about 7:00 am and flew to San Sebastian on a turbopro at about 10:30 am. San Sebastian airport really in Irun and not San Sebastian and is about 2 miles from the French border and the city of Helaye. You can catch a taxi for 20 Euros and there are buses about every hour. You need to catch a train from Helaye to Bayonne and then there are two daily trains from Bayonne to St Jean de Port taking about 30 minutes at about 9:30 am and 6:10 pm. There are trains to Bayonne at 1 pm, 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm. If you have time, it is fun to walk from the train station into central Bayonne (about a 10 minute walk) and have a look around.
If you are flying into Barcelona, you maybe able to get a pilfrim rate fare on Iberia from Barcelona to San Sebastian. My wife bought a pilgrim fare from a travel agent in Santiago from Santiago to Madrid two weeks ago for 79 Euros when it would normally cost 224 Euros.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Thankyou for that information Ravenback, much appreciated. I didn't know you could ask fo pilgrim fares,so that is very helpful
