Time of past OR future Camino
plan to cycle the camino
My wife and I are going to cycle the camino in May of this year from Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela, and then find our way to Bayonne in about three days, what is the best way? train? bus?

Suggestions from Rome2rio - https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Santiago-de-Compostela/Bayonne-France - none of which look particularly attractive.

If you still feel like an adventure you might try the FEVE narrow guage railway along the north coast http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/feve/index.html Ferrol to Oviedo; Oviedo to Santander: Santander to Bilbao and then bus to Bayonne. Should take about 3 days :p. Bikes generally need to be boxed / bagged to be transported on buses and trains other than commuter (cercanias) trips. http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/info/bicicletas.html https://www.alsa.es/en

Happy planning

Since return into 'the real world' after the camino is always a shock another slower transport solution is to ride the daily RENFE train from Santiago to Irun/Hendaye connecting with a local TER train to Bayonne or a SNCF/TGV train to Paris. Booked from SdC a few days before desired departure that long train ride across Spain is truly a sentimental journey as it passes through much of the countryside recently seen on the CF.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

We took trains from Santiago de Compostelle to Santander (changing at Palencia) If you have time Santander would be a great place for a night stop. We returned to U.K. via ferry (24hrs to Portsmouth) a great way to acclimatise to the real world after the Camino.

Thanks to all for your helpfull suggestions much appreciated, however I should make it clear that we have to get to Bayonne with (fully assembled bikes) for the third of June to catch the European Bike Express back home,We are starting our journey about the 13th of May from St Jean Pied de Port, enough time? hope so.
