Travel Companion from CDG to SJPD April 29th

Hello there!

Genuinely, the only part of my Camino that I'm nervous about is getting from Paris CDG Airport to SJPD. I don't speak a lick of French and am nervous about navigating the train/bus system. I fly in to Paris early on April 29th. Is anyone else flying in that day (or close-to) that would like to travel the first leg of the journey together?

A little about me: This trip for me is ten years in the making. My goal is to finish the Camino on June 6th, my 30th birthday, which will be a really great big emotional journey for me all on its own. I'm from Boston, MA in the US and am really excited to make my own Way on this trip.

Please let me know if anyone is interested!

Best,
Joan

Hi Joan,
Another option, although cost depends on what's avaiable is to fly from Paris (ORY) to Biarritz (BIQ) then taxi into Bayonne. Prices I can see online at the moment will cost around $160, we did it this way in 2009 with little or no french.
You get the Air France shuttle bus from CDG to ORY (well signed and you can gets CDG maps online) the taxi's for Bayonne leave right outside the BIQ terminal, only need to give the driver your address. The trick is to find a cheap flight out of ORY which gives you time to get to ORY from CDG the shuttle takes about 45 min but you probably need to have a couple of hours to allow for baggage (CDG) and check-in (ORY).
Buen Camino.

I am flying into Paris (CDG) in Sept. and I have booked a flight to Biarritz with EasyJet which leaves CDG mid afternoon and gets into Biarritz around 7:30 PM. I plan on getting a taxi to Bayonne and have reserved a room for the night and will catch the train to SJPDP the next. The cost of the flight was about 35 Euros.

Thanks for the info! I'm also trying to keep cost down. Would the train ride be less expensive than taxi probably? I know so little about getting around in Europe!

Hi Joan,
Are you talking about a taxi from Biarritz to Bayonne or from CDG airport to Paris?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

If you take the train to Bayonne you can then take another TER train from Bayonne on April 29 to Saint Jean Pied de Port. Here is the current schedule for Bayonne to SJPdP from the SNCF (French railways). The cost for the train to SJPdP is roughly 20 euros. The cost for a taxi from Bayonne to SJPdP was last year 90 euros. For more information see http://www.voyages-sncf.com/
Bon voyage and Buen Camino!
