Planning to hike or bike in end of Nov 2014
Hello,

I am traveling to Madrid Nov 25. I would like to do El Camino... either hike or bike... I know weather could be bad.. what you recommend?
I am thinking Sambria if hiking or Leon if biking?
Will I have difficulty finding albergues or hostelerias during that time period..?
Any recommendation on what is best.. what to look for... or even.... where to stay and what bike rental company to use?
What is the best way to get to those places from Madrid and back? train? bus?

Leon is well connected to Madrid by Renfe train and ALSA bus.

Best way from Madrid to Sarria is take the Renfe train. There is more frequent service from Madrid to Ourense and Monforte de Lemos so it might be worth taking the train there and then bus from either Ourense or Monforte de Lemos to Sarria.

1905 Sarria

Empresa Freire connects Santiago to Lugo. Most but not all buses stop enroute at the Santiago Airport. Monbus connects Lugo to Sarria. The transfer point is the Lugo bus station.

Sometimes it is more time efficient to take Empresa Freire bus from Santiago Labcolla airport to Santiago bus station (every half hour) and catch another bus to Lugo.

Monbus has buses from Santiago bus station to Monforte de Lemos and buses from Monforte de Lemos to Sarria.

Renfe provides service to Sarria on trains running between Monforte de Lemos and Betanzos-Infesta. These trains originate in Madrid, Barcelona, etc and terminate in A Coruña or Ferrol. Trains from Santiago usually require a transfer at A Coruña, Ourense, or Monforte de Lemos. If you plan to get from Santiago to Sarria ... use the bus.

Thank you so much for the detailed information, I greatly appreciate it.

Will I have difficulty finding albergues or hostelerias during that time period..? Nov 26- Dec 2?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I walked late October to Early December 2012. A lot of albergues were closed. Most of the Xunta operated albergues were open. I usually had to stay in the larger centers even if that meant stopping early. I never had to walk further as planned.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

How was the weather from Nov to Dec?

From mid November there was frost in the morning, particularly on days with clear weather. Thin ice covered puddles near Cruz de Ferro. I encountered snow at O Cebreiro and had a day of walking in it. There were violent rain squalls that would fill the streets with a river in 5 minutes. I was lucky to get to Fisterra just as the squalling started happening frequently ... the rains apparently started late that year.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
