Leaving late August, flying into Barcelona, long held dream to walk Camino SJPP to Santiago! Piecing together plans-so excited/slightly terrified
Advice please .... I leave 20th August and having last minute mild panic ... flight lands in Barcelona at 1.30pm have booked the train to Pamplona leaving 3.30pm, will that be enough time to clear the airport & get to the train station? Also ... should I stay in Pamplona & bus to SJPP the next day OR I have made a booking with Albergue Corazon Puro for pick up and travel onto SJPP the next day? Just think I might be trying to do too much in one day? Thoughts would be appreciated to calm the nerves, thanks :) Kez

It takes 22 minutes for the cercanias/rodalies train to travel from Barcelona Prat to Barcelona Sants where you catch the train to Pamplona and it runs every 30 minutes.

As in 1508 - 1527 ... leaving not enough time to transfer from the Renfe Rodalies train to the Renfe train to Pamplona.

So somehow you have to get to the 1438 Rodalies train to Sants.

Now you can see the time appreciation is a bit short. You have to get off the plane, through customs and baggage claim, and find the rodalies train in 1 hour and 8 minutes.

Did I mention the Rodalies train station is in terminal 2? Which terminal do you arrive in?

You might make it. However, if your plane is delayed (a likely event) you're screwed.

I'd allow at least a 3 hour window for leaving the airport ... even if you likely won't need that much time. I've been on too many flights that arrive late.

I would suggest trying to cancel the train ticket to Pamplona and either reserve a seat on a later train (or ViBaSA bus) or get a ticket when you arrive at the station.

As for Pamplona to SJPdP ... I'd suggest taking the bus in the AM. You'll likely be arriving in Pamplona too late for Corazon Puro to pick up.

Thanks so much for your advice, kind of what I thought. My flight arrival has already been pushed out 1hr, hence the tight timeline. I thought it would be quicker to get a taxi to the train station, being a Sunday but yes, a hiccup or another delay and I'll have to give up on that train booking-gah!

exciting times for you! What we did last year was to spend the rest of the day and night in Barcelona - it is just such a lovely city. We took the 7.30 train from Barcelona Sants to Pamplona, shared a taxi to get to SJPP. We arrived there 12ish and still had time for leisurely lunch before starting our walk at 14.00 to Orisson. This helped us to really have a relaxed start to the journey and not to stress about time...just the way a Camino should be:)
