Time of past OR future Camino

We are arriving in Biarritz airport at 1330pm on July 1st. Is it feasible to plan staying at Refuge Orrisson that evening. Travelling by bus and train from Biarritz airport to SJPP, then walking from SJPP to Orrisson?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
That would require getting to Bayonne to catch the train (I think that is still the method). Check the schedule with your arrival time.
Then walking the 7 km up the steep hill to Orrisson. It can be done but may be a loooong day.

Unless time is in short supply..a night in SJPP would probably be welcome.

Well, it's probably possible. The train departs Bayonne at 2:55pm and arrives St. Jean around 4pm. If you took an hour to get your credencial and buy some supplies, you'd be looking at a best case arrival time in Orisson of 7pm, if you're quite fit. So, just enough time for quick showers before dinner.

You wouldn't really experience St. Jean at all and you'd have to hustle through that first walk. Depending on flight delays, you might need to spring for a taxi from Biarritz to the Bayonne train station.

So, yes, possible!

Yes it's possible, but why hurry up to the Albergue Orisson. Enjoy a night in SJPDP you will love it.
Wish you well and a Buen Camino, Peter.

It's possible, but you'd miss the experience of staying in St Jean and it might feel like a bit of a rush.

If you decide to do it, you could save time by booking an airport transfer with Caroline of Express Bouricot http://www.expressbourricot.com

Another option is to stay in Huntto, rather than Orisson. It's a bit closer to St. Jean.

Good luck and Buen Camino.

Thank you, may i ask if (in your experience) if Caroline is reliable.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

As you see, this could work. Great insight here. Most importantly if you do choose to make it to Orisson that evening or the next, you MUST be sure to have a reservation. The process is tedious to some, however, with some patience it usually always works out.

Once you choose, do a search for Orisson reservations. You should see all kinds of answers and the link to make your reservations.

Keep a smile,
Simeon

Caroline is very reliable, I used this service in Sept this year, very pleasant trip. We were also escorted to the pilgrim office.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hi cosan, as Dave wrote in his post, about arriving in Orisson around 7pm, they only will hold a room until 6pm. I too would suggest a night in St. Jean and if possible, at Beilari.

I found the hike to Orisson to be miserable hot, incredibly humid, no tree shade, and without wind...I grew up in Florida and I thought I had seen everything and that was my personal experience in September 2015...so stay in Saint Jean overnight and do the hike to Orisson the next day...besides go see the UNESCO City Gate and Camino Pilgrim Office in Saint Jean...and for fun hike up to the fortress on the hill overlooking Saint Jean and the food is good in town too...also bring a lot of water for the hike to Orisson because I think there is only one water tap on the upper road and I missed it during my hike to Orisson.

The last watering hole before Orisson is in Huntto, after that there is nothing, at least not on a permanent base. Buen Camino, SY

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Crossing the Pyrenees from SJPP to Roncesvalles on the Route Napoleon....

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Thank you all for advice and comments. I think that getting Carolines bus from Biarritz at 230pm would get us to SJPP in time to climb to Orrison that evening. I need to check out reservations!
