Treasures of the English Church

Members in London may be interested in the following exhibition at Goldsmiths Hall.

Treasures of the English Church: Sacred Gold and Silver 800-2000.

http://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/events/

Held under the patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury, it features more than 330 spectacular objects from some of the grandest cathedrals and from parish churches throughout England. This is the first exhibition of such importance and scale ever to take place and is open to the public from Friday May 30 until Saturday July 12. Admission is FREE.

Exhibition curator, Timothy Schroder, said: “The exhibition is a visual record of the entire history of the English Church and it is fascinating to see how the range and design of these precious objects reflect the politics and theology of their times.”

Each piece vividly evokes the tradition, symbolism and unbroken ritual of the Church in England through the ages. Many of the treasures on display have until now only been seen by a local congregation.
