TSA Approved hiking poles?

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
Does anybody know if there are TSA approved hiking poles that can be taken with carry on, or any other alternatives to hiking poles?
Thanks.
You will get a lot of answers to this. One of the moderators recently posted on this topic and hopefully will direct you. The short answer is "no" they need to be checked. You can also buy them in Spain.
Some people have been able to sneak them in and others have had them confiscated and made to take them back to the counter to be checked.

Good information in this post from @C clearly
If anyone wants to read more anecdotes about hiking poles - on planes or otherwise - just click on the tag "poles" and settle in for a long read. If you want a shortcut to the most recent now-closed thread on the topic, go to this one.

For the key facts and official policies about carrying poles on airplanes, see this thread, which is conveniently tagged so that it appears as a FAQ in the Frequently Asked Question section.

Thanks. I did travel within the USA with hiking poles because it is to the discretion of the TSA inspector, but eventually they were confiscated.

On this forum I have always heard that members who have Black Diamond poles that fold up in thirds because they have a "bungie" type vord inside, always seem to get through security with theirs in their packs. I once was able to get my cheapie Decathlon poles crammed into my Osprey pack...just barely, and they still pulled them out at security...grrr.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Why are you annoyed at the airport security staff for doing their job? Or are you annoyed at yourself for trying to get a prohibited item into the cabin and being discovered?

Aah, come on everybody. This question has been so thoroughly thrashed it looks like quieter end of an Eton schoolboy. Why anyone would want to ask this forum a question that could only, possibly, be answered by TSA USA is beyond me. That said there really is no need to revive this ex-equine (read dead horse) topic even if we can find new and interesting ways of sniping at each other.
