Should I choose shoes that I can walk in also?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I have cycled il Primitivo twice and VDLP once and used mountain bike cycling shoes. I had no problems and never slipped. It all depends if you are comfortable wearing clip in shoes. If you are then you will not have a problem

I don't know if you have already completed your camino or not. If not, however, and you still need to buy shoes, I would definitely recommend Shimano. I bought a pair for cycling - they also have cleets although I did not use these. I not only rode, but did a lot of walking (mostly uphill on the road and on the trail) in these shoes and never had to worry about sore, aching feet.
