Under 1lb down quilt/bag?

Already walked the Camino and am committed to a sleeping bag or quilt, from experience. Last time I used a fleece liner and it just didn't do it for me - I prefer more cushion and warmth at the end of the day.

I also stay under 10b total, including the weight of the pack, so the weight of the bag or quilt is my priority.

I was just about to purchase a custom Revelation from Enlightened Equipment, but they say they are not able to make it with my 5 week lead time. Huge disappointment, since I had already researched and mentally committed. Any good alternatives out there, under $300, that are under 1LB?

I bought a down quilt from Bed, Bath and Beyond for $19.00 on sale a few weeks ago. 15 ounces, and I slept outside with it down to about 55. They had a similar one on sale at Costco as well. I should be good to go. Bag contents weigh just over 4.3 pounds. I am really going light this time. Just bringing what I need, and for everything else there is Visa. - Steve

Mountain Hardwear have a new bag called a Down Flip which I have been coveting lately.
I have a 45F down mummy bag of theirs which I have had for 10 years, I like it. The nearest model on sale now is the Ratio. The old models of these (grey) are currently on special offer as they are being replaced by new (blue and green) Ratios and the Down Flip.

I will keep recommending the discovery I made two uears ago at Costco and rabed about here: Double Black Diamond duvet quilt sold at Costco. I believe these days they are seliing 2 for 40$.

I adapted mine for the Camino with snap bottons that match (male-female) snap buttons I also have on my silk liner. That way the duvet doesn't slip off the bed at night, and you can keep it off you, to the side, if you get too warm.

Double like. Recommended.
A friend has one of these as an under quilt for when she goes hammock camping so thought I'd give it a go.
Put the snaps on and slept out in my (unheated) camper on an overnighter. Outside temperature was probably 7 degrees. Woke up in the middle of the night and had to un-pop the footbox studs as I was too warm.
Excellent idea especially as I find mummy bags too constricting.

I picked up a Light Line 200 and it was awesome. 535 grams.. i think that's 18 ounces? so.. slightly over a pound. But, it has become my go-to sleeping bag. Packs down incredibly small, and is incredibly versatile. I use it camping out in Colorado, as a travel bag to take for emergency sleeping overseas, as something that can live in my car during the winter in case we get stuck on the passes... great great bag that I cannot recommend highly enough. At 173 euros, I found it to be quite a well priced piece for a easily packable mummy style bag that was always available. I love the sea to summit gear, but couldn't justify the extra cost and the difficulty in acquiring one. I had wanted a to bring a Spark, but a 3/4 length zipper doesn't do it of rme (i'ma hot sleeper) and it was almost twice as much as the cumulus option that I went with.

I've got a sea to summit traveller tr1 which I took on my Camino. If you like the revelation quilt there is a Chinese copy on AliExpress for around 90 dollars called an Aegismax that is really good. The biggest difference apart from being a third of the price are the baffles are sewn through instead of box baffles. If staying in albergues the TR1 is ideal, if you're going to camp the occasional night the Aegismax is the one is go to. Here's a review

Cumulus Light Line 200 and it was awesome.

Very nice bag! It's the one I carry as well. I always use a silk liner, which allows me to use the bag unzipped and like a comforter, with my feet in the footbox. Using the bag that way, makes it easy to regulate the temperature. Outside of the cold season, I usually sleep with the bag pushed below my waist.

But Cumulus actually has a lighter option, better suited for the Camino, namely the Quilt 150, which is essentially the same bag, just without hood and back. Weighs 375 gram. Cost is 30 € less. Perfect for use with a liner, but not recommended without (sanitary reasons).

They also sell the "Magic 125", which weighs 245 gram, but that one has no zipper, and will thus most likely get too hot.

I'm am also just about at the point of ordering a AEGISMAX Wind Hard UL Quilt, sometimes also called a sleeping bag. American friends advise that is a copy of an 'Enlightened Equipment Revelation' model.
Living in Aussie my preferred supplier due to shipping costs is AliExpress, altho I'm told they are also available on Amazon.

This is exactly how I used my Sea to Summit Traveler bag. it worked well, both liner and bag were under a pound, and packed down tiny.

So, I watched the video. These bags close with little straps in the back. I always wondered about the draft. Is it because they are meant to be used with the mat inside the bag? It never occured to me. And clearly not a solution for the Camino since we have mattresses, not camping mats.

Also, the knock off looks really flimsy, almost as is it is made of liner material and not the shell.

"Quilts" are perfect for the Camino, much more so than sleeping bags, and are very well suited for use without mats, in the way I described a few posts above. Far more comfortable and far better/easier thermoregulation.

Just ask any "hammocker", as they (we) use (top)quilts all the time - without strings. In fact, try visiting http://www.hammockgear.com/ - they sell some really nice top quilts that would be just perfect for a Camino. There are numerous other quilt vendors, like http://undergroundquilts.com/ , www.locolibregear.com , etc., but Hammockgear is the vendor I can attest to.

Why I don't use my quilt on the Camino? It's too warm - rated for -1*C/30*F

Well, considering I was the first person on this forum to discover and talk about the Costco quilt, and adapt it, not once but twice, I would say I know what they are and have used them. In fact on two Caminos now.

Where I strayed is that I thought people were meant to use the little straps without a mat that would cover the back, and yes, possibly in a cold albergue, by those wanting to be fully cocooned and not just using theirs open as a flat blanket, which is my preference.

Without a sleeping pad, using the strings will surely mess up your sleep , as the quilt then will turn with you, and leave plenty of your surely delectable posterior exposed . Used without strings, the quilt will stay in place, while the body turns beneath it (unless you hug it) - pretty much like a "comforter"/"eiderdown". Both quilts and "eiderdowns" (I use one at home (with open windows, all year)) "cocoons" just fine

Love my silk quilt in summer and my goose down one in winter, with windows open, unless the AC in on. And yes, even in 30C below!
