Update on my orthotic/foot pain issue

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances April 2020
Last month I posted about a problem I was having with foot pain and had been prescribed orthotics. The orthotics did not fit into my trailrunners. Someone had asked at the time for a later update.

I went through a few sizes of trailrunners and boots trying to get the orthotics to work. Nothing worked and even up to almost a month of wearing them I was getting worse pain than I had before. I ended up returning the orthotics after my physical therapist agreed they were causing more problems. I'm in physical therapy twice a week until my Camino starts in April.

Are you back to using the inner soles that come with the shoes? Hopefully the pain is gradually getting better. What does the physical therapist think the problem is?

Did they not make the orthotics to fit your shoes? Mine were made to fit my shoes.

If the foot pain is in the sole of the foot, it likely is plantar fasciitis. Irritation of the foot tendon.
Especially if you have "high" arches.
You may need better arch support in you shoes and ASICS sneakers are good for that.
Also you might try stretching Achilles before walking.

You need to break up the necrotic tissue around the sheath of the tendon which is inflamed.
I did this every night by dragging the blunt side of a butter knife down the bottom of my foot 25 times each night.
Others will roll a golf ball with the sole of their foot to break up the dead inflamed tissues.
The orthotics are more of a prevention, they will not help much to get rid of the problem.
It sounds nuts, but the butter knife worked for me - I had the same problem just before my first Camino!
Bon Camino
