Hi there! I´m planning my camino by Variante espiritual...the thing is 3rd day, as I wish to sleep in Padron, are there boats in the afternoon? What about walking in 2 days, are there more people with this experience? Íve already done Central Portuguese. Many thanks!!

Currently the boats are at 7am (I took it a few days ago) because of the tides, so there are no boats in the afternoon. We then walked to Santiago in two days, staying overnight in the pension in Areal, which was a really nice little village and a better option (IMO) than Glorioso and the other options nearby on the main road.

Is this accurate? I understood that the tide means that the schedule shifts much more frequently.

The OP asked if there were boats in the afternoon but didn't specify when they were going. The schedule does change but it's accurate that four days ago the departures were at 7am.

Hello Cacadia,

A month ago I was in the Spiritual Variant. I think it's better to book the boat.
That's what I found.
The cheap
https://app.mruta.com/olga-otero/reservation/departs.
I sailed with this one. They do explanations in Spanish and English, they give you a tea and they are friendly.

The expensive
https://www.amareturismonautico.com/en/tours/jubilee-tour-through-the-sea-traslatio/

When you book the hostel in Vilanova d'Arousa you should be aware of where the pier is and the distance between the hostel and the pier. And put on your jacket on boat because it's cold at sea even if it's sunny

Buen Camino!

CP coastal then central then spiritual June 22

Pop in your dates and it will show you the times.

Best to book in advance. You will need to be at the jetty 15 minutes in advance, so also good idea to figure out where it is relative to where you are staying the night before

I believe that there are 3 operators on this route, each departing at slightly different times, with departure times influenced by the prevalent tides.

In no order of preference, as the prices from each operator are the same, currently 20.00€ per person one way only, these are the operators
La Translatio / La Barca del Pergrino / Naviera Bahia Sub

==
Translatio Xacobea / Tours Rías Baixas
(they operate the fast rib boat/launch)
tel : 00 34 680 733 990

==
Amare Turismo Náutico
tel : 00 34 650 410 322 + 650 410 323

Remember that departure / sailing times vary as they are dependent on the tides.
Hope that this might assist

We just walked the Variante Espiritual in April. What a wonderful section of this Camino! We did the fairly traditional Pontevedra to Armenteira (stayed in the monestary; highly recommend it), Armenteria to Vilanova de Arousa (Lbergue A Salazon was very nice and just a couple minutes walk to the boat dock) and then took the boat the third morning. We sailed with Amare. Top notch company. Thoroughly enjoy the trip up the river. We had a late morning boat so we arrived in Padrón a bit after noon where we took lunch. As we had stayed in Padrón on a previous Camino, we kept walking for another couple hours. Although I could have easily enjoyed an evening in Padrón, we were told that the Botafumeiro would fly the next day. Walking beyond Padrón allowed us to easily make it to the cathedral in Santiago for Pilgrim’s Mass the next morning. As boats are scheduled with the tide tables, you may most likely find that the departures are in the morning. If you do only travel from Vilanove de Arousa to Padrón, think of it as your final rest day before the last stage into Santiago!
