Camino Portuguese (2018)
My wife and I will be starting our first Camino on 10th August 2018 and want to spend the first part along the coast to Vila Conde and then cutting back inland to join the central route. It seems that the way is not to difficult to find and there are always people to guide you. Is the walk to Barcelos possible in 1 day? How many kilometers is it? If someone else is walking the same route from Vila Conde on the 12th we would be happy to join up with you. T

Hi Andrew, there's a few options from VdoC to Barcelos or Rates and some informative forum threads. I'd suggest putting. Vila do Conde in the forum Search box for a start and getting back if you have questions. Have a great Camino!

It's about 32 km (20 statute miles) from Vila do Conde to Barcelos by this route. An eight-hour jaunt for the reasonably fit. with just one smallish climb (200m/630ft) between Pedra Furada and Barcelos.

If that's too long, there's a donativo albergue at Sao Pedro de Rates, with lots of bed-space, and a smaller private one at Pedra Furada.

Thanks Aurigny. This information is perfect.

Yes made the walk in 1 day. Unfortunately it was 34 degrees so it was a long day. In Pedra Furada there is a wonderful cafe. It’s right on the Camino. The owner is a lover of American jazz and very engaging. Good food too!

And a great albergue and private rooms. That owner's name is Antonio btw.
Best place imho on the Portugues.

We walked from Vila Chã to Vila do Conde, then along the river route (green dots in the Brierley guidebook) to Rates one day (approx 22 km), then from Rates to Barcelos (approx 16.5 km) the next day. As others have said, there is a lot of road walking between Vila do Conde to Rates, but as I recall, the route was adequately marked.

And he has 3 rooms for rent . 1 double bed room , 1 for four persons the other one I do not know .

We walked it a few days ago. I would also recommend staying at Pedra Furada if you have the time. According to Apple Heath it is just shy of 31 km. We used Google Maps and there were not many arrows. Pretty much all hard pavement. Very few water fountains either but a few shops/cafes

How far is it from Vila do Conde to Pedra Furada?
From Vila do Conde it is about 15 kms to São Pedro de Rates and another 6 kms to Pedra Furada.
Be carefull ... from São Pedro de Rates you partly walk besides a busy national road to Pedra Furada .The kind Portuguese people who turn into devils, once behind the steeringwheel of their cars and trucks, will pass you very closely.
Big signs for the drivers CUIDADO PEREGRINOS are aside the road but in spite of that, they will drive like mad 😡

I would like to walk the river route in Tui next month. I can see on google maps exactly where it starts, but it seems a bit overgrown. Has anybody used this route this year or last year...
Hello, my friend of 50+ years and I are on our first Camino walk. We are looking for: 1) safe, comfortable hostels in Lisbon; 2) stages from Lisbon to Porto (via Tomar) in about 16 days...
Hi I have searched everywhere to see if there is a luggage service from Lisbon to Porto. I know there is from Porto to Santiago, but Lisbon ???. Thanks for any info.
