Frances 2016, summer 2022....
Hello! I’m Colleen and I walked part of el Frances in 2016 and was very inspired by the journey and the amazing people I met. I am walking again and am working on a project in which I am collecting the personal stories and accents of the people I meet along the way. I’m an assistant professor of theatre and hope to create a multimedia piece of theatre based on the camino and these interviews and to contribute to an educational accent database. I will be starting in Irun on 21 June, walking el norte to el primitivo.

If you are interested in being involved please let me know in person or via email if we don’t cross paths. Thanks for your consideration and for all the advice on the forum. I feel very blessed to be a part of this community and wish you all a buen camino.

Interesting concept. Would like more info.
Are you saying you will record us telling our stories or your students will act the parts?
All the best.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hello! Yes I will ask open ended questions/have a conversation with folks so the participant is in charge of what they share. It’s a form of theatre called verbatim/documentary theatre and takes the real words of people to create a piece. Anna Deavere Smith is a known for this type of work. The motivation is to foster empathy for another and human experiences in general. My experience from my first camino inspired the project.
The accent portion entails reading sentences to capture signature sounds so that actors/voice coaches can identify key features of an accent and to introduce folks to the sounds people make from different regions.
I have received my university’s research /ethics approval and will obtain consent and release from all participants. I hope this explains some more. Happy to answer any queries. Thank you so much.
