Vueling Airlines - experiences or thoughts

Dear Forum Yodas,

I am looking at flights arrangements from Porto to Barcelona in June and I keep seeing incredibly cheap fares from Iberia, but they are code shares with Vueling.

I have not flow budget airlines in Europe before and considering the fares are so drastically less expensive, I wonder if I should be concerned. Of course the TripAdvisor reviews are terrible, but it is similar with all budget airlines.

Can anyone offer their experiences or thoughts?

You get what you pay for. With code sharing, you rarely know who is actually flying the plane. Vueling is a subsidiary of Iberia, which is owned by British Airways, and code shares with American Airlines and others. Your flight will have four or five different flight designators!

Vueling is good...no need to print out the tickets like Ryanair. They have a nice app for tickets / reservations. Good timeslots too.

Last year I flew with Vueling from Venice through Barcelona to Madrid and back from SdC (again through Barcelona) to Venice. All flights were as scheduled, staff nice, the cheapest tickets at that time and as said before relatively good time-slots.
I think Porto - BCN is such a short flight you wouldn't notice the difference if flying with another airline. Save some money and rather splurge on food/drinks/hotel

Flew to Paris from Santiago on Vueling after my first Camino in 2013. I had no issues with it. No complaints. Very short flight.
I'm all about the price when it comes to flying. Could care less whether they feed me or what movies they have to watch on board. I'd fly on a cargo plane with jump seats if the price was right. After all, isn't it the destination that's fun, not the flight?
I remember one time I was flying from Siem Reap, Cambodia back to Bangkok, Thailand. Small airport. You walked from the terminal to the airplane and board via passenger stairs. The plane was a typical turboprop used for short flights into small airports. While walking to the plane I overheard a woman tell her husband she wasn't sure how safe the plane was because it had propellers. Ha ha.

Thanks Everyone! I could never find a domestic $60 flight in the US (especially one way.) Not even on a coach, so my ignorance just made me pause and ask.

Like you all, I am not too concerned with frills, I just want get to BCN is the shortest amount of time.

Yeah, unfortunately in the US the truly budget airline concept doesn't exist. Quite common throughout Europe and SE Asia.

they're fine, flown lots of times with them, maybe a notch up from ryanair (rather half a notch). safety record is also prime to my knowledge.

You'll be pleasantly surprised. In my opinion also, Vueling is fine to fly with and quite 'normal'. Have used them 2 years running from Sdc to paris . Make sure you select if you are going to have check in luggage when you book it online. If you decide when you arrive at the airport to check in luggage,, it can add quite a bit to the cost. I think I made sure I'd printed my boarding pass before also. You can do this early with Vueling. When you actually book on line I believe.

I flew with them from Heathrow to La Coruna. Like previous posts, I thought they were fine.

I ended up with an extremely convenient connection from London to A Coruna last year when I walked the English route. My flight from Phoenix to London was with British Airways, so I only had to talk to the Vueling counter at Heathrow to get a boarding pass. The flight itself was great; the plane was quite comfortable and service very pleasant. I liked it so much that I booked the exact same flight for this year's trip back! Regarding Iberia, I've flown them many times and always had a great experience as well.

I only fly budget as I only fly relatively short distances. It is ok, security wise all airlines, budget or not, are checked and maintained the same. Space for feet/legs is another matter. Buen Camino! SY

I only flew with them once from SdC to Paris in 2012. There were no issues before or during the flight but I wish to God that there was some way to get off their mailing list. Their spam is never ending (and, yes, I tried their various instructions to unsubscribe and they don't either work or or make you create an account in order to change your notification preferences!)

For the short time you will be on the flight, what can go wrong? Wish they would bring these rates to North America. Because after all, these are all licensed to fly, and stay in business. If they were horrible, they would not be licensed to fly nor would have clients. And then you can try Air Canada and see what it feels like when a mainstream airline gives clients the experience of a bargain brand while charging premium ;0)

I have flown Vueling several times on several different routes since 2008 and experienced no problems. I will probably use them again this year between SdC and Barcelona.

I'm pretty sure I've flown one way on Southwest for $64 or $67. I'm hoping the Vueling experience will be similar. We plan to fly them from SdC to BCN. I looked at flying them elsewhere, but the layovers in Barcelona seemed too long. We will do this for a 2-3 day wind down after the camino and I just don't want to spend 6 hours of that waiting in the Barcelona airport.
