Walkers and Pilgrims i need your help.

Calling all Walkers and Pilgrims that have undertaken the Camino and going to !
My name is Jessica Cartwright, and I am walking the Camino de Santiago in June this year.
I am currently a Geography student at University.
I am interested in the Camino on a personal level and when researching around the trip i realized there was not much academic research. Whilst walking the Camino I want to find out and explore the impacts and reasoning of a 21st century pilgrimage. I want to also try to understand the development of a traditional pilgrimage into a tourist attraction.

This is a sample questionnaire that i will be taking with me on the Camino and asking fellow walkers and pilgrims to fill in. However i wanted to undertake a pilot study to get some feed back about the questions.

Please click on the link and fill in the questionnaire !! Many many thanks :D
Bon Camino !

Re: WALKER and PILGRIMS i need your help.

Hi Jessica. I've had a quick look.

I think making city and occupation compulsory may be useful to you but is not acceptable to some. At the moment I would not fill in your form because I am not prepared to answer those questions, though, of course, I could lie.

Perhaps region as compulsory and hometown/occupation as optional?

Question 6 is made redundant by the question "are you walking for religious reasons?"

Traditionally only pilgrims walk for religious reasons. That includes all sorts of quests of a spiritual nature, not just Christian, as the next question implies. The rest are walkers.

Question 17. Too, not, to.

The question on pilgrim accomodation costs requires "Acceptable" or "About Right."

If this questionaire is for the purpose of research for your degree you might find people a bit more sympathetic. Otherwise I, for one, am fed up of being asked for my opinions on all sorts of surveys.

Hope this helps.

WALKER and PILGRIMS i need your help.

I personally, feel that 'city' is a little too personal. Also, unless you mean this in a different way, but when you ask 'are you a pilgrim', aren't we all considered pilgrims when walking? (Anyone correct me if I am wrong, I'm really curious though) I wouldn't mind answering the questionnaire except I haven't walked yet, so I couldn't answer all questions truthfully.

Re: WALKER and PILGRIMS i need your help.

I personally feel that your request is a bit too imperative. Your first post in this forum, using capitals and 'help', while I got the feeling that you haven't done much research in advance. But that is just my humble opinion.

Re: WALKER and PILGRIMS i need your help.

Sorry, don't take offence, but the questions are too personal for me,sounds like a Maccas survey before they move in to an area .....is it ?

Jessica, dont get too disheartened but think about what has been said.

Please also be aware that a similar questionairre was posted here not so long ago.

Re: WALKER and PILGRIMS i need your help.

I just answered the questions and didn't find them too personal.
Why would it bother you to put your city? I mean, you don't put your name?
And if she's curious as to why a person is walking, why would that matter? :?:

I don't want to argue.. I just think the survey is fine.

There is tons of research done and currently being conducted on the camino by historians, ethnologists, religious studies etc...I feel that if you are interested in conducting research, please state that in your topic title and follow all ethical guidelines in your academic area. ( I am not saying you are not following them, just being an advocate for your work) Here is a link to just one source of previous and on going research!

Also some questions like "16. Is accommodation too expensive along the Camino? " can really only be answered by people that have done the Camino. Also, whilst I guess that you mean only the Camino Frances, some questions could be applicable to all Caminos, whilst others I personally would answer differently for different Caminos. SY

Just what I expected. Never seen Jessica here again since her first post.

The survey form is no longer active.

There is a plethora of academic research regarding the camino across a variety of disciplines, and I'm happy to share my bibliography with other researchers.

Aware of the need to ask with sensitivity, my own request for feedback on conducting research appropriately is posted here.
