Walking from Amsterdam

Has anyone here ever walked from Amsterdam to Santiago via Somport Pass?
Is there a Camino?

Hi Annie,
In 2007 I met a couple who walked from their home in the Netherlands (I don't know if it was actually Amsterdam) to Santiago with their 8 month old daughter. I believe it took them about three months. I wish I had photos - the child was cherubic - like something out of a Rubens painting. However, coming from the US, culturally I thought it inappropriate to photograph someone else's child and (regrettably) never took a photo of her. However, I think of them often.

A lot of Dutch pilgrims walked, cycled (or even went by wheelchair) their pilgrimage from home. So we, my wife Erna and I, did it in 1999. We live 70 km south of Amsterdam, but also the part from Amsterdam we walked. It took us 3 and a halve month to reach Santiago de Compostela.
There is a guided (only in Dutch) path from Amsterdam to Maastricht (the most southern city in Holland) and from there one can go via Luik (Liege) and Namen (Namur)(Belgium) to Vezelay in France. But, as we did, you can go in south-south-west direction through France till the Pyrenees and then follow the Camino Frances or the Camino del Norte.

Last May near Burgos we met with a young Dutchman who had walked from Amsterdam. He was carrying a tent and cooking gear so that he could camp out if necessary. While in Holland he used to walk until he reached a village where he wanted to spend the night. Then he would knock on someones door and after explaining that he was a pilgrim would ask if he could camp in their yard. Only once was he refused, indeed mostly they insisted that he stay in their house and share their evening meal as well.
When we met with him he was staying in albergues, but was still carrying all his gear with him. This totalled 15 kg but he was adamant that he would reach Compostela with the same amount of luggage that he had left with. Very determined, the Dutch.
