Walking over the new year

Hello Peregrinos!

After walking part of the Camino earlier this year, I can't wait to walk again (when big decisions need to be taken, where else to go, no?). I have about 5 walking days available after Christmas and into the first week of 2012, so I could start a couple of days before Sarria and finish in Santiago. Has anyone walked at this time of the year - are the alberges open on new year's eve and on 1st and 2nd of January? It could be a bit of a pickle if they weren't but I just can't imagine a better way to start the new year!

Thank you,

Agnieszka

Hola Left Behind:
Johnnie Walker did that a couple of years ago, walking from Ponferrada in exceptionally snowy weather. He did fine. But he called ahead and booked places to ensure he had a bed!
You can contact him here on the Forum for specific questions. Here is the award-winning video he made on the trip:

Such a beautiful video! Four and a half minutes of pure peace.
Bit wet though...

Hola Rebekah!

Thank you for the tip, I'll contact him directly for some tips! And thank for the link to the video - I have to say that I didn't expect that there might be so much snow!

with best wishes,

Agnieszka
