Hi guys! anyone know a place i can buy these in Porto before i start my Journey? I never used this before and i hope it will help in some way or form. And you have any tips about using it let me know. Wondering if it is necessary to carry all those accessories ( feet). Or one type only is good enough. I will definitely ask in the store but wish to hear the opinion here. 🙂 Thank you.

sport shop in porto portugal

You will get all the sport stores including Decathlon in
We got ours at Decathlon in Porto.
Perfect! i will stop at that store then. I dont want to waste time going to a few stores looking for it. Better for me to go to a big store right away and probably this is a thing easy to find in that area because of the volume of hikers. Where i come from is not something that you find easily or just close by.

Do you guys (for just that camino Portuguese) carry different shape of feet? Or just one type is enough? I am sure at the store they will teach me too. I plan to leave it there once i am done with the hike so i dont want to buy unnecessary extra acessories.

I bought a spare pair of tips just in case I lost one... actually a few years ago I did lose one in the gap between the wooden boardwalks... so it's a good idea. I opted for Decathlon own brand, cheapest poles.

That is very helpful since this will be my first time touching these things it is good to know all this.

Tip- Learn how to properly use the wrist straps. The correct way is to insert the hand from below the loop, then grasp the whole strap and handle of the walking pole. This way, you can use the straps to push off, especially on inclines and downhill, without having to hold the handle. This will avoid hand strain. The following video, although not the best, will demonstrate this. There are many others on YT that you can watch.
Also- get ones, if you can, that have interchangeable feet- metal tips for trails, rubber feet for hard surfaces.
On my first Camino, my trekking poles saved me from falling down a flight of stone steps on day 1, that would likely have resulted in serious injury. I always use them now! Lesson learned.

I decided to get mine after I arrived in Porto in October 2018. At the time there were two places, it seemed, to get them: a sporting goods store and the Decathlon. As it turned out, I arrived on a Sunday when the sporting goods store was closed. The Decathlon was open and I was fortunate to be able to grab the last pair they had. If someone had come in after me, there wouldn't have been a pair available.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
