Yes, this was on page 8 of the US edition. Large headline "Spain Blindsided by New Surge". Similar statistics as Ivar's video. A few interesting notes:
"By early June new confirmed infections fell to under 300 a day from a peak in March of nearly 8,000 daily cases. Now the virus has bounced back with more than 5,000 cases a day."
"Coronavirus cases rose as nightlife and family gatherings resumed."
"Despite the surge in cases, hospitalizations and deaths haven't increased significantly on the Continent."
"The average age of people infected has dropped to 38 from age 60 in the spring."
"Infections have spread rapidly among seasonal farmworkers harvesting summer crops. In many cases these workers often share cramped apartments where the virus can spread easily".
This story certainly reinforces Ivar's recommendation to not walk the camino in September. My wife and I have cancelled our plane and private room reservations and will reschedule for Sept-Oct 2021.
