Pilgrims, if you are currently doing the Camino Português, beware of Albergue Quinta Estrada Romana in Paços, Portugal as it is FULL of bed bugs. I’ve never seen so many. Just keep walking to somewhere else.

Note that this is a very nice place and this eventually happens to most albergues as pilgrims transport them from site to site. Just avoid this one for a bit while they solve the problem.

At 2AM I decided that I was better off walking than staying here.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
You actually physically observed the bedbugs? At 2:00 am?

Hola @moxy. This is why you need to do a thorough examination of the bunks/beds before settling. I you find one or see signs of them tell the hospitalero and ask for your money back. I learnt this from my travelling (daughter!) back in 2017, she did a thorough exam each night. (But unfortunately they were hiding in one of the blankets that she did not search. Bummer)

Hi @Saint Mike II ,
I think that was probably my case as well. I checked the bed as much as I could but I was given a blanket and pillow later which is my theory on how they came to be.

They hide in crevices in the furniture, walls and floors, and come out at night. Certainly it is a good idea to inspect for them, but it is not a guarantee!
I think mines came out the pillow case 😔
