Wearing Gaiters In April

Will be starting our first Camino trek on April 6, 2017. We will be wearing Altus ponchos. Are Gaiters going to be necessary , or is that overkill

If you wear shorts ... gaiters (or scree cuffs) are useful for keeping crud (particularly snow and gravel) out of your shoes. If you wear long pants its overkill.

I usually hike in shorts ... in all weather ... and I wear gaiters. Keeps the bugs and sun off my otherwise bare calves and the stones out of my boots.

I like gaiters, but I have found that I rarely used them when I took them. Water will migrate into your boots even with gaiters, so I suggest you save the weight.
