Hi
I am about to set off from Lisbon on the 18th October, any advice on what to expect weather wise? It is my first pilgrimage and I am looking forward to trying the quieter route but the first leg was recently described to me as brutal! I hope I have chosen the right route!

The weather this October is one for the record books. It will have to break eventually but currently unseasonably hot, high 20´s Celsius. Be prepared for anything, hasn´t rained in weeks, walking in the afternoons is awful, like summer, cooler at nights but not cold.

Hi Catherine,

What little portions of the camino I walked south of Porto felt a lot better for walking if less social than the section north of Porto.

We met a 69 year old Irish woman just before Azambuja and then again in Rabacal, she had struggled with the 30km legs on the Tomar route, but that could also because the Temps were around 35c and higher.

Have a good camino and hope the weather has cooled down by the time you get there.

Santiago de Compostela

October 2010:
It began with eight days of rain; 13 days of rain for the entire month.
The temperature did not reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the entire month.

October 2011:
No rain yet.
Eleven days in the first 18 with a high temperature over 80.

Sevilla:

October 2010:
Two days over 80 degrees.

October 2011:
Every day over 80 degrees; six over 90 degrees.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
The strange thing is that todays weather forecast shows rain over most of Spain, but not Galicia! It looked like probably not Portugal either but that bit is always cut off.

I will ignore the record books the next time I walk a camino, Im just going to bring kit for all possibilities, layering up or down.
