Weather on Camino Frances in July?

Hello! I will be walking The Camino from June 29th to late July. What can I expect for weather? Will I need anything for the cold? Will a silk liner be sufficient for sleeping? Thanks for your help - I have a TON more questions that I will be asking. This forum is fantastic for information! Liz

Hey, I'm also doing it from the 29th (flying to Biarritz then bus to bayonne and then train to st jean) and starting walking the next day. I'm wondering the same as you but I will say that I've bought a really light (and small) season 1 sleeping bag as well as a silk liner. I expect the weather will be around 30 degrees C at its peak though can't say as this is my first time walking the camino too! I've heard that it does tend to rain in Galicia but all I've got for that is a poncho...not sure whether that's wise as they're not breathable but hey.

So are you flying out on the 29th and starting the next day from st jean like myself or are you taking a whole different approach/route? Will be great to hear back from you! Callum

How exciting for you guys starting off in 3 weeks!

As we all know the weather is quite fickel but my experience in July along the Francés was fantastic. I started off in SJPdP on July 3rd and did not encounter one day of rain - my poncho remained on the bottom of my pack. I took along a silk liner (no sleeping bag) and was chilly on only 1 or 2 occasions (in Roncevalles but this was in 2010 and still in the old location). Blankets are in most cases available.
What I did use on most mornings was a light-weight fleece as early mornings tended to be cool but after a hour or so of walking I took it off. It also doubled as a "pillow" for under my liner.

Am off on the 30th to be a hospitalera for 2 weeks in the Albergue Perroquial San Juan Bautista in Grañón (last town in La Rioja and 8 km after Santo Domingo de la Calzada) so stop by.

Preparing is so special but walking it even beter !
