What is "Dog" symbol on milemarker 8 km Portuguese

I saw the same dog symbol throughout our Portuguese Camino walking via the central route.
Sign of a pilgrim with too much time on their hands. Graffiti is a problem everywhere unfortunately. I think the amount of litter on the trails probably bothered me more.

It should mean look out for dogs on the Lisbon to Porto section....... however plain old selfish people defacing property I think.
 
Close to Santiago on the way in from Finisterre. It actually looked kinda cool. There’s worse defacing outside of Sarria on the 100km marker and the one saying “Jesus didn’t start in Sarria.”5CAAABEF-A4D5-46F1-BF81-0ECAC266C06D.jpeg
