What size frame for a Compostela?

Hello all,

After some research, I've seen that framing a compostela can somehow be a contentious subject. So, hopefully this is an easy question! I'm just trying to figure out what size the compostela is. Is it a standard European paper size?

Thanks!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I'm not confident they are always the same size, but ours from 2104 were 11" tall and 8-3/16" wide. Our compostellas from Fisterra were 11-5/8" tall by 8-1/4" wide. The separate certificate we received from the Franciscans in Santiago (it was their 800yr aniversary) was 11-3/4" tall by 8-1/4" wide. And finally we received a joint certificate bearing both of our names that measures 9" tall by 13-3/8" wide (landscape format). Maybe all those inches make for beautifully even centimeters. I don't actually recall getting this last one, but it bears the seal of Santiago and lists the Despues de Realizar of 775km from SJPdP to Santiago.

Hope that helps...but it probably just confuses you like it did me.

My (Santiago) Compostela - Sept 2015 -s 290mm/210mm (or around 8.5" by 11.5"). So it's pretty much a standard A4 page. Does this help??

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Have the frame made by a FrameMaker when you return home with your Compostella!

I think it's an A4. If you do not live in Europe, and do not want to pay a small fortune to have it framed, I would suggest a quick stop at the Corte Ingles and buy one of those Ikea like frames with clips that allow you to frame your certificate yourself. Ask for a "marco de foto".

If you use a mat around the Compostela you can use any size frame that's larger than the document. If you're in the U.S., one of the standard pre-made frames carried by any art store or frame shop will work as the opening in the mat can be cut to any size. The same of course applies if you're in the rest of the civilized world that uses metric dimensions. Otherwise, a frame shop can make a custom frame in any size you want.
