We usually put our photos up as thumbnails because those full size pictures take up too much bandwidth when up/downloading the pages. We had to stop viewing the original thread until we found an 'image blocker' which could block photos we had already viewed and did not want to download again. So please think of those who do not have unlimited allowances and use Ivar's useful thumbnail option :)
Looking forward to seeing where people walk this year.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thank you to @LesBrass for the original idea for this great thread! I really enjoy seeing everyone's local world.

Today, walking along the Fraser river near Steveston B.C. (Canada) with views of Mount Baker.

As the floods in Yorkshire begin to receed we were able to get out to our beloved Nidderdale. The mist spread over the hills we were about to climb but we still loved the fresh air and lack of rain

I love to walk in the mist, you become wet but who cares, not me.
Thanks for sharing those nice pictures.
Wish you well, Peter.

No floods here, but too wet to walk anywhere except just round the lanes for short distances :(. Waiting for some clear dry days. :) Good to see others are able to walk.

Interesting---I guess I have good bandwidth because the old thread loads in a flash. I hate those thumbnails where I have to click and click to see every photo.

I use the snipping tool to put my photos into a Camino file before posting which reduce them to about 140kb, about 1/10th the size of some of the other photos here.

Would limiting the file size help? The snipped photos still seem to be of decent quality.

Here's where I "walked" today. Let me know if it jams things up and I'll change it to a thumb.

Nice photo @newfydog We are still praying for snow; any change from the relentless rain - some frost to kill the caterpillars eating my broccoli and the snails in my kale - and a water-table height that is drowning the cockchafers (good) and everything else (not so good)

Leisurely 6k. in Lauw, close by the oldest town of Belgium ,Tongeren.
Lauw is known for cultivating watercress .The river Jeker is a big help for this because of the streaming water. And the Camino is everywhere.

There is even a beer based on watercress.
But is watercress any good for blisters ? Haha

Thanks @newfydog . Yes it is the file size rather than the loading time itself that makes the difference. When total monthly allowance is limited reloading files of 2Mg+ per photo takes up a huge amount of the monthly allowance as the files all reload each time a page is viewed. Your lovely photo is just the right file size IMO :), for large files the thumbnails work best.

A soggy 7 mile ramble along the shore of Strangford Lough and Delamont Country Park, near Killyleagh, Co. Down. It was strange to see so much seaweed in the fields from the high tides. Delighted that my new Keens passed the comfort and dryness test!

Walked 8.8 k in Alden Biesen today. Grey but 8 Celsius. Very very muddy. Was the only one when I started ( see parking lot ) and I found a yellow Compostela flecha :). Alden Biesen is very famous for it's castle.

Magwood. I recommend to climb pic La Maroma (2096 mts) from Canillas de Aceituno, that is the highest point in province of Malaga. Good views of la Axarquia and the see. Also for people on holidays in Costa del Sol.
Very easy but a bit hard 6 to 8 hours the round trip depending of the shape.

Hi @Pelegrin. La Maroma is on my 'to do' list, as is Lucero. Hopefully both will be conquered before my next Camino. I have travelled on horseback as far as the high meadows towards Maroma from the village of Salares, where you get views of Granada province. I guess you have been up there?

I am considering offering walking holidays in the near future in luxury accommodation in the village of Cómpeta. The property is currently on the market, but if it doesn't sell very soon I may be putting it to good use. Anyone interested, please get in touch. Sorry if I'm contravening any forum rules with this 'advert'. Let me know and I will edit.

A short walk on the Haldon hills which were very wet. A lovely view as always across the Exe estuary. One place where we normally cross the road was impassable as the ditches were full of water. Fortunately we had elected to stay at the car park side of the road and not crossed earlier to walk the husky training trail.

...as I was walking in the Bush I saw
2 wallabies
a cockatiel and
an Aussie.

He was carrying
a 40 litre pack
two shiny green poles and
a hat

(¿ ¿Camino?????????)

I said
¿Hello, are you preparing for a hike?
He said
My wife and I are going to the north of Spain.
We've already hiked the Machu Pichu and The Great something-or-other
and now we're trying el Camino.

I asked,
¿Will you be sleeping in the albergues?
No, he said, in accommodation.
¿Then why are you carrying a blow up bed? It weighs at least five hundred grammes.
¿Why not take a mat?

He replied
At siesta time I wish to recline in comfort. [full stop.]

hmmmm, I thought
....this man's about to suffer.....

Despite the rain of the last days I went for another local walk of 8 k. Light drizzle but nothing major. Orchards, paved roads and woodtracks. I made the mandatory coffeestop , read some poetry ( local poets have placed their poems en route ) and got really angry seeing the debris some people leave behind ( the mattresses ?? ). And a former chapel now henhouse.

Sherpa on another ocean swim for Hubby - from Brighton Jetty and along the beach in South Australia. There's also a Street Festival held together with a Classic Sculptures Exhibition along the waterfront. A real mix for the senses in beautiful weather although a strong sea breeze made it choppy going for the 1500m swimmers.

...today in the Bush just after dawn
as I was sweating in the steam
I heard the sound of a pair of birds mimicking car alarms...

Lyre birds here in Australia are wondrous mimics and, on a walk in the misty Yarra Ranges one morning, I heard one mimicking firstly a truck backing alert and then a chain saw. Later that day as I was driving (slowly) down the mountain a lyre bird jumped from an upper bank and ran across the bonnet of my car - think RoadRunner cartoon - and then disappeared into the bush. Its prints were the only evidence of our encounter.

On Thursday it was dry enough for a walk (on the road) with views across to Dartmoor. Haytor stubbornly remained in shadow with the clouds splitting over the tor itself.
Today we woke to see water running down the tractor marks in the field behind us, then it crosses the lane between the hedges and can be seen flowing like a river down the lower field. Awful what it is doing to the crop just there. No way we can walk that track, nor others, as we know the water will be about knee deep in the hollow, and it is still raining although not so hard.

At last we are getting a few dry days. Along the old railway track today (and on Monday the moors were in the sun).
The paths are still very wet so we kept to the main track.

Two fine dry sunny days in a row....
Catkins against a blue sky yesterday on our usual 'round the town road walk and a visit to NT at Parke, Bovey Tracy, today. Up the hill with views of Dartmoor, then the track through the woods, onto the road to miss a very wet area then along the railway track back to the car park. Two good walks.

Oh I haven´t seen this thread yet.
I am participating in the walk 1000 miles challenge 2016.

I have clocked 220 miles since the 1st of January here in East Sussex and discover more and more the South Downs.
I am no good in posting pictures and will do that once I get the chance.

Buen Camino a todos.

Hi....the more the merrier!!

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Yesterday, I walked/climbed Flat Iron in the Superstition mountains East of Phoenix. Far more difficult than any section of a Camino I have walked. I like to do this walk annually while escaping the Winter cold in Chicago for a few weeks. The upper half of this walk you use all four appendages. Anyone from this area who can do this hike will have no problem with the Camino. A 5 mile hike with many stops on the way up and very steep declines. It takes me four hours and requires lots of fluid, very dry here. Lots of great hikes here in the East valley, Phoenix, Arizona.

Ultreya,
Joe

That's encouraging Deise, I hope that those signs spread northwards soon :)

I really have to get out for some proper walks - it has been ages since I posted photos on this thread. I am of course walking vicariously with all of you!

At last, a 'proper walk'" - a really nice, but surprisingly challenging horseshoe route from the coastal village of Carnlough.

About 16kms of tramping up and down marshy ground in the County Antrim hills. It was a perfect winter's day, with views across the sea to Scotland.

We are from Co Sligo in Ireland. We walk The Gleniff Horseshoe (10K) and a circular walk around Cromleach Lodge (18k). Both of these without much of a break. We're hoping to fit in more longer walks but life seems to keep getting in the way! We're planning to walk about 15 - 20k a day in Portugal, so I think we're nearly ready!

Great walks Sheena! We spend three weeks in Mullaghmore every summer and love Co. Sligo. We've also bought a lot of our gear in Sligo over the years - the service in Call of the Wild is outstanding.
It sounds like you're very well prepared - Buen Camino!

Thanks for your message Nuala. We agree - Co Sligo is so beautiful - even the Atlantic storms don't dampen our spirits! In fact the crashing waves are glorious both in sight and sound! I see you've completed The Camino de Frances! Well done! Your other walks sound quite demanding too! Don't know whether we'll be fit enough to do another but the Portuguese Coast beckons this June! Would go tomorrow if I could!

Hi Sabine, lovely pictures. Thank you for sharing.
Wish you well, Peter.

Another nice walk in the hills yesterday - from Annalong, Co. Down to Cove Beg and Slieve Lamagan in the Mourne Mountains. Snow, ice, a little rain and lots of sunshine.

Nuala,

Beautiful!!
Thanks Sabine, it was a really enjoyable walk. I'm so glad that I joined a walking club last year - it is a great way of doing more challenging walks. I come home exhausted and muddy, but feeling fantastic.

Great Nuala!
Mud and rain here too and perfect for checking out my raingear.
Went for a walk around the hermitage of Vrijhern.

Not snow but salt... Lake Gairdner, a salt lake in the north west of South Australia. Once a year the Dry Lake Racers Association holds a Speed Week think Bonneville USA or Anthony Hopkins in The World's Fastest Indian.

Amazing landscape, remote, off grid, Yes, Virginia there are still places in the world with NO mobile signal or internet access... except by satellite phone.

18 k in Voeren today. Full pack. Started very very foggy but then brilliant sunshine . Very diverse landscape and some serious hills. Sprins is almost here.

Back in the muddy Mourne Mountains this weekend. Up and down 5 boggy hills: hen, cock and pigeon mountain, finishing with the two Maughanmores. The old leather boots that gave me blisters on my first Camino are perfect for this type of walk.

Beautiful Nuala!!

Another trial walk today with pack. 18 k. but less hilly than yesterday.
Bit of Meseta feeling although you would not find a Carnaval goer there.
Well did not train enough for my mini Camino next week but will have to do.

Now I will stop hijacking this thread...

Great photos Sabine, especially the Meseta-Like trail.
Buen Camino next week! The walk to Fisterra is fantastic - especially if you get to walk the last couple of kms in the ocean.

At last - we have been off the road and across the fields. Still some mud but passable. There is also a section where the old stone track is still visible. It went from the big farm to the village many years ago. Lovely in the sun but the wind is still cold.

The Onk (Onkaparinga River National Park) almost my backyard and training ground for every walk I've every undertaken. Especially after being unable to walk at all for such a long time. It is everything that I have come to love about the Australian bush - rugged, enduring, resilient, demanding of your focus and respect. I'm spoilt for choice as I can hike along cliff tops, down to rock pools, through gullies and gorges or down to the wetlands. Today I rock hopped along the Onkaparinga River, watched by several sleepy koalas and the resident mob of kangaroos.

A photo from the lookout and the fire track training circuit.

Back in Alicante for a few days and this morning I walked up to Santa Barbara castle... I hadn't walked properly for weeks so taking pics gave me the chance to catch my breathimage.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg :D
The view from the top makes it all worthwhile!

My own neighborhood meseta. The pup and I trained on a trail down to the hiway and back. We have a few wildflowers blooming at latitude 46.3N and an elevation of about 200 meters.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
A late dusting of snow mostly burnt off by glorious early spring sun by midday; in the distant haze/cloud is Scotland, in the foreground is my beautiful viszla Huba. 1km of tarmac, otherwise all off road; only fell over once in the icy/muddy bits, and lunch was very welcome and felt earned, even if it was only half a camino day, without a rucksack.

Hi Alan, love the picture.
Wish you well, Peter.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Well, not today, last weekend but I've only just uploaded the photos to my computer

A symphony in four movements:

1. Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple at Sellicks Hill with its 18m-tall granite Quan Yin statue. Very much a work in progress with future plans for a 35m pagoda, an 18m temple and Chinese gardens. A tranquil and blessed start to the day.
IMG_5805.jpg IMG_5806.jpg

2. Myponga Conservation Park on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. This is a scenic little reserve brimming with low scrub native bushland. A bit steep in parts with a dear little seasonal waterfall and prolific bird life as well as some welcome - and not - reptiles and occasionally an echidna though we only saw a road kill this time out :( For anyone looking for a walk to train for some of the rougher, steeper parts of the Camino, this is a very good one away from the metropolitan area. Met a huge wild steer near the creek but he was fat and full so didn't present any problems.
IMG_5809.jpg IMG_5811.jpg IMG_5812.jpg IMG_5814.jpg

3. Along the start of South Australia's famous long distance walk the 1200 km Heysen Trail out of Cape Jervis. This coastal part is one of my favourites - and yes, I've walked it all but in stages as much of it is seriously remote and often you even have to carry ALL your water! That's why all the Aussies on the Camino have smiles on their faces - one litre of water weighs one kilogram.
IMG_5815.jpg IMG_5816.jpg IMG_5817.jpg

4. The Cape Jervis jetty, setting off point for a visit to Kangaroo Island, with its views of the island across the Backstairs Passage.

Ooh I do not receive any notifications anymore for this thread! Missed alot.

Lovely pictures people!!

Just a Sunday morning stroll to get the paper. Our council rehabilitated a local creek and the area teems with wildlife. Not unusual to see pelicans, native hens, falcons, ducks, cormorants and koalas. The educational artwork is on the toilet block next to a children's playground.

It's Autumn here and we got our first real rain - 15mm - in a storm overnight. A chance to test the Hoka Tor Summit boots in rain and mud - yay! Living in the driest state in the driest inhabited continent, we celebrate ever drop.

Finally managed 20k in the Kentish countryside today, beautiful sunshine and ...warm!
Bluebells in woods, a lovely pond and rows and rows of raspberries!
